How and Why I Use Evernote - 0 views

  • How and Why I Use Evernote
  • I use an app called Evernote as my primary productivity tool.
  • ...11 more annotations...
  • But, like so many great tools without a system and logical way to bring them into your everyday reality, they can become just another distraction. So, I want to give you a little of the logic of how I use Evernote.
  • my thinking on productivity is influenced by David Allen’s Getting Things Done. One of the core premises of the book and teaching is that by getting everything into a system that you know won’t fail, you can relieve a great deal of the stress that comes from trying to make sure you don’t forget something important.
  • The function that makes Evernote so easy to adopt for this purpose is the ability to add and capture information in numerous ways.
  • Here’s my system for using Evernote
  • I create separate folders for things like blog post ideas, research for my books, and each project I identify
  • and then happily clip, take notes and email ideas to Evernote as I visit my RSS reader, read my email, meet with clients and surf throughout the day
  • I use Evernote as a tickler file by creating folders for each month of the year and adding reminders of future actions into each. So, now when I need to file some report quarterly I find a reminder when I review that month and add it to the to do list.
  • Because I can get info into Evernote in so many ways and some many forms I also create and maintain lists of things I want to track of find later,
  • I have folders for random thoughts and when I hear, see or read anything that I want to capture I use my iPhone to capture it or a service called Jott to quickly record a voice message that’s transcribed and added to Evernote.
  • Evernote has become the central nerve center of my work and its usefulness has spilled over into every facet of day to day life.
  • I check in every morning to create a list of action steps and to dos and then routinely add content throughout the day. The secret (once more for emphasis) is that its so integrated into every tool I use so it is easy to create a routine to use it.

How I Use Evernote In Business and at Home | Cloud Productivity - 0 views

  • How To Use Evernote – My Story
  • I did indeed start using Evernote to write down my notes during meetings. The beauty being that I could take notes on my iPad and then reference them as soon as I got back to my desk.
  • A little while later I discovered that Evernote supported PDFs and other file uploads. That gave me the idea to drop brochures, white papers and case studies about the product I was consulting for at the time, SugarCRM into Evernote. This was brilliant! Now, if I was on-site with a client, I could quickly show them, or even email them, any piece of documentation they needed, right from Evernote on my iPhone
  • ...13 more annotations...
  • My method of taking notes in meetings has changed though – I now take my notes with pen and paper, BUT, I use the audio record feature of Evernote to record the entire meeting

  • I copy email threads into it that are worthy of keeping, or have important information in them straight into a new note.
  • Here are some examples of how I use Evernote today:
  • Evernote is my filing cabinet.
  • if I have to be quick before I lose my train of thought, I’ll start a new note, and use the audio recorder to just speak my thoughts
  • Every idea I have goes straight into Evernote
  • When I get a document I would normally file away, I now scan it and put it in Evernote and throw away the original. I have setup a notebook (actually a notebook stack) in the same way my filing cabinet was setup, and combine each document with note tags so I can easily get back to it when I need to
  • Task management and tracking. I can easily create tick boxes for items I need to follow up on.
  • The search capabilities of Evernote are amazing
  • All my notes, images, PDF, files, audio, everything, is stored very kindly by the people at Evernote on a colossal collection of big muscly computers called “servers”.
  • These servers are in the cloud. So I can use my iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Mobile, Mac, or PC or any web browser to get to, and add to, my notes. They are always up to date no matter where I access them from
  • You can even share notebooks, and of course, access other peoples notebooks.

How to Use Evernote to Keep Track of Consulting Projects - 4 views

  • after the initial project kick-off session as the client will find additional material on their computer
  • Clients will very often want to know day-to-day progress on a project.
  •
