I found this article especially interesting on Aljazeera's website, because it looks at an American criminal and personal/moral issue in the eyes of a Middle Eastern and largely Arabic news staff. I wanted to see if they had tainted eyes or more contempt for this Marine who defamed a dead body. What I found is the article did a great job of sticking to the news story and not straying into any moral debates or inappropriate personal commentary on the soldier's actions. This is obviously how a good journalist news writer should write and act, and the author, Mr. Deptola, did a good job of keeping the expository stance.

'Disgraceful': World reacts as Trump supporters storm US Capitol | US & Canada News | A... - 0 views

  •
This article from Aljazeera summarizes the response from world leaders with regards to today's attack on capital hill. In general, they all expressed similar sentiments that seemed to condemn the acts of violence, support a peaceful transition of power, and hope America is able to return to being a "temple of democracy."
  •
It is interesting to see such a contrast in rhetorics from outside the US and within. Even after the capital was secured 6 republican senators continued to try and block certification.
  •
I think the fact that other world leaders have to wish for a non violent transition of power shows that America is not a "temple of democracy." Like Ethan said, 6 senators tried to block certification of Joe Biden as the president elect, also showing that democracy in America is struggling

Scores dead after Aleppo pounded in aerial onslaught - News from Al Jazeera - 0 views

  •
81 more civilians were killed in Aleppo today. Up to 300 people have been killed in the past 3 weeks. In response to Aleisha's article, I think this pretty much proves that the cease-fire (which was created about a month ago) has been obliterated.
  •
The ceasefire in Syria seems to have been truly meaningless; as I understand it the agreement barely stood for an hour. The fact that Russia has no problem shelling civilian areas into dust is absolutely reprehensible, and that the US and its allies haven't done much of anything substantive is quite sad.
  •
Yes, I agree it is disappointing that the ceasefire failed; however, I think it is important to recognize that quite often, the first ceasefire of a conflict is not the last. Even though it was unsuccessful, it was not totally meaningless because it is just the start of a process, and it opened the door for a dialogue that could potentially lead to peace talks.

Listen to the people on Obamacare - 0 views

  •
This article talks about Sen. Cruz and his questionable remark that the government should be: "Listening to the American people." It seems that he believes the American people don't want Obamacare. What is confusing about this whole idea, is that it seems he only has 1/3 of Americans on his side.

Occupy Wall Street Spreads, Turns Violent - 2 views

As OWS gains traction, it governs more and more support overseas, as similar movements spring up in many parts of Asia and turn violent in Rome.
  •
It is interesting how there was a sign saying "Karl Marx was wrong". Protesters are upset at the rich for not sharing the wealth. The occupy Wall Street movement has taken up across the U.S. I saw signs and protesters in Walla Walla Washington and in Chicago advocating for more people to join the movement and unite against the upper class. It is also interesting how it is a time of major unrest and discontent with capitalism not only in the United States, but also in Rome and across the globe.

There was a huge protest in New Haven at Yale while I was there this week. They were chanting "We are the 99 percent." http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,2094925,00.html These photos go with Jenna's point that these movements are all across the globe.

Mapping the dead in latest Israeli-Palestinian violence - 1 views

Great image detailing the death in recent conflict between Israel and Syria. As tensions build, it is interesting the attempts at diplomacy between the two countries and how it affects their allies.
