Most of the violence seems to stem from frustration. In protest to the oppressive capitalist system they so hate, protestors are becoming willing to do more extreme acts as a call for attention. However, this violence ultimately proves counter productive because it makes it easier for the mainstream media to write off the protestors as "violent extremists" rather than actually listening to their message.

Arab Spring inspires protests against corporate greed - 1 views

This article makes an interesting connection between the Occupy Wall Street protests and the Arab Spring. The author suggests that the Arab Spring and the people's call for greater equality and freedom in the face of oppression have inspired other countries across the globe. Arab Spring shows the power that the young have in the new digital age, and this lesson has in a large part inspired young adults in other countries to protest against the injustices within their own society. IN the U.S. these protests have taken the form aversion and anger with the inequality that has resulted from our capitalist system

As occupy Wall Street protests spread across the globe, arrests rise in response to increased violence and disorderly conduct. In objection to the inequality of capitalism, protestors have taken to the streets in order to get their message across. The movement has spread to London, Rome, Hong Kong, Chicago, and more. Frustration at the current system has caused many protestors to seek more extreme ways to ge their message across, which in turn has led to more arrests.

I think that it is really interesting to think about how the hyperconnectivity resources like social networks give protesters the power to both organize and connect with other parties and share with the world the reality of their situation. Human rights abuses are no longer so easily repressed as with a video camera and youtube anyone can document what exactly is happening in these countries and share it with the rest of the world. The internet gives power to people who only a few generations before, had none.

The Arab League has, for one of the first times, rebuked a fellow country, Syria, for blatant human rights abuses. This, along with its policies and actions against Libya, are promising new developments in Arab Nation relations. Taking such a strong stance against human rights abuses will make it more difficult in the future for these same Arab Countries to commit to take the violent action against internal conflict that they have been known for in the past. They are now, for one of the first times, vulnerable to having a similar double standard in regards to human rights that they have so criticized the West for.
