There is an emerging knowledge movement that is slowly building all over the world, though it often goes unnoticed by the media and most formal education systems. A part of this movement can be described as a network of 'eco-versities'-people, organizations and communities who are reclaiming knowledge systems and a cultural imaginary to restore and re-envision learning processes that are meaningful and relevant to the challenges of our times.

ImageNet is an image database organized according to the WordNet hierarchy (currently only the nouns), in which each node of the hierarchy is depicted by hundreds and thousands of images. Currently we have an average of over five hundred images per node. Atlas of Care connects personal and professional scientific inquiry with community-based development theories and practices. We design experiences and practical tools that help people see, connect, and collectively inquire about their care (giving and receiving) activities in everyday life. Though care is central to our ability to thrive in our lives, it is often not seen or recognized. By learning how to see the invisible - visualizing care ecosystems and other aspects of living - people can be more intentional about how to build, strengthen, and expand the capacity of the various lived communities.

Next City finds compelling projects that might inspire your own work or be worth replicating in your city. We ask practitioners to present the project, including the challenges, roadblocks and lessons learned. Then we moderate a live conversation with the audience.

We've designed the En-ROADS Guided Assignment: Simulating Climate Futures (Word and PDF) to provide educators and anyone else with an exercise that can easily be shared with others. A shorter version of the assignment is also available (Word and PDF). This assignment can be given to individual students or groups. "

"Fractals are scale-free, in the sense that there is not a typical length or time scale that captures their features.  A tree, for example, is made up of branches, off of which are smaller branches, off of which are smaller branches, and so on.  Fractals thus look similar, regardless of the scale at which they are viewed.  Fractals are often characterized by their dimension.  You will learn what it means to say that an object is 1.6 dimensional and how to calculate the dimension for different types of fractals."

Prosocial is a method for improving human welfare through creating more effective, harmonious, equitable and cooperative groups. Prosocial has been applied in situations as diverse as helping a school to enhance collaboration among teachers and students, a community to reduce the spread of Ebola and a network of environmental groups seeking to cooperate more effectively to achieve their common aims. Prosocial works best for groups, and networks of groups, that are interested in human welfare, not just economic outcomes.

The School has been initiated and nurtured by Forum for the Future, with the support of multiple partners. We have the ambition to serve the emerging field of systems change, as a vehicle for connecting and amplifying spheres of learning and practice, and as a case study of an initiative grown explicitly as a system change endeavour. To do this we have used a methodological framework developed by Anna Birney, Director of the School and author of Cultivating System Change: A Practitioner's Companion (2014). This framework suggests key capabilities for bringing about system change for a sustainable future can be divided into five core areas (read more here on our blog) which underpin our curriculum and our everyday practice.
