YouTube has launched a brand new video editor that allows users to easily remix their own videos and turn them into brand new video creations.  The editor, which has a super simple interface, lets users create clips using pieces of their own videos and music from an AudioSwap library of tunes.

Weblogs? Been there, done that. Facebook? It's full of kids. Twitter? That's so 2006, darling. No, the smart thing to be doing online these days is tumblelogging, which is to weblogs what text messages are to email - short, to the point, and direct. Has anyone used this in the classroom?

Facebook. Twitter. MySpace. Cell phones. Blogs. Time thieves, all of them. Or at least that's how they've sometimes been portrayed in news media, common lore, and even the occasional scholarly study. Social media just add to the Great American Isolation, right? Not so, says a study from the Pew Internet and American Life Project.

A new school model called High Tech High is getting good early reviews for its project-based teaching. It is one of several ventures said to be part of what promoters call the 21st-century skills movement. Somewhere John Dewey is chuckling, because he had the idea in the 1890s. The work, not the season, should be the focus. Creating something useful to other people (click on my blog!) should be part of school. Everything should not ride on a letter grade in June.

Our students should have a brain break every 20-25 minutes. Brain breaks are refreshing to students and teachers alike. They do take some time out of class, but the efficiency of our students goes up when we incorporate them.
