Once upon a time there was just ONE printing press in the world. Now anyone can have one (printer) or more. Today we hae to go to a store to purchase items we want. In the not-too-distant future we may all be able to just make the item ourselves. What does that mean to Business? What does it mean for education?

What does the research say about school one-to-one computing initiatives?

I like this one for kid useability, but don't like that it doesn't really explain WHY it selects the appropriate tools that it does. Oh well, efficient.

Although this doesn't really TEACH the skills for better searching, it DOES help students quickly find specific tools. Very friendly for kids.

How do you describe what happens to a face, when it is surprised, angry, sad? How does a face change?

Word Games is a provider of a large collection of online word games and typing games. The word games range from simple word searches and crosswords to games that require players to complete sentences and phrases. The typing games are a mix of simple sentence typing for speed and games that require accuracy to "defend" a character or move a character through a scene. Some of the games featured on Word Games can be either downloaded to your computer, see Typing Defense, or can be embedded into your blog or website. Word Games does use interstitial ads on its site, which is might annoy some visitors, but none of the ads I've seen on it were inappropriate in their content (most were for online schools, and tutoring services). The size of the Word Games collection makes up for the potential annoyance of interstitial ads.

Voisse has three core features at its heart - Record, keep and share. 1. The portable slideshow is in technical terms a podcast. No-one else gives the you the ability to easily create their very own podcasts. There's desktop software that does similar things to Voisse, but it's infinitely more complex and require considerable technical ability. 3. Share A core reason people choose to record audio is to share. Voisse gives you this ability, if you choose, via email or social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. Many people have things to say, experience and wisdom to pass on, things which others value. For those who have popular or unique recordings or slideshows, we have created a Marketplace where they can be bought and sold. The Voisse Marketplace offers you a unique area to create and sell your audio content.

Another "Did You Know" kind of video. Very interesting. should your students see this? Should they discuss it? Does it apply only to Brunswick students?

Librarians and educators need to be able to illustrate to students and users alike that websites cannot always be trusted to provide truthful and accurate data. This page provides examples of websites that are full of lies, inaccuracies or false information - either for amusement or for more worrying reasons. The list does not include phishing sites however; these are intended to fool a person into believing that they are visiting a legitimate bank site for example; there are already plenty of links to these online already.

Student Response Network (SRN) is a powerful "virtual Clicker" student response system designed for use in school computer labs or with wireless laptop groups. It does away with the need for personal handheld "clicker" devices by providing a software-only solution for use with networked Windows desktops or laptops.

Newsmap is an application that visually reflects the constantly changing landscape of the Google News news aggregator. A treemap visualization algorithm helps display the enormous amount of information gathered by the aggregator. Treemaps are traditionally space-constrained visualizations of information. Newsmap's objective takes that goal a step further and provides a tool to divide information into quickly recognizable bands which, when presented together, reveal underlying patterns in news reporting across cultures and within news segments in constant change around the globe. Newsmap does not pretend to replace the googlenews aggregator. Its objective is to simply demonstrate visually the relationships between data and the unseen patterns in news media. It is not thought to display an unbiased view of the news; on the contrary, it is thought to ironically accentuate the bias of it.

Nothing yummier than an unlocked iPod Touch or iPhone. This is the third-party software that does it.

This would be a great assignment. Have your students write a pargraph and put it through a translation tool and find the mistakes and correct them. You can see the process using google doc's revision history feature.
