FutureMe.org: letters to the future - 4 views

  •
Future Me is a neat service that lets you write an email to your future self and have it delivered to your email inbox at a time that you schedule. It's easy to use Future Me. To use Future Me just type your email, select the date you want it to be delivered on, and then enter your email address. You can choose to keep your letter private (default setting) or make your letter public (anonymously) and placed in the gallery of letters. Applications for Education It would be great to have students use Future Me at the beginning of a school year. Students could write about what they hope to learn that year, what they do or don't like about school, and goals that they have for themselves. Then at the end of the school year students can read their letters and see how they've changed over the year.

A Radically Different World If you think our future will require better schools, you're wrong. The future of education calls for entirely new kinds of learning environments. If you think we will need better teachers, you're wrong. Tomorrow's learners will need guides who take on fundamentally different roles. As every dimension of our world evolves so rapidly, the education challenges of tomorrow will require solutions that go far beyond today's answers.

Replaces the old send-a-letter-to-your-future-self project, so no money is wasted on postage, paper, or envelopes.
  •
Really simple: write an e-mail, and then have it sent to yourself at the specified date in the future. Use it for time capsule projects, or just for reminders. You can set it private or public, and you can even read the public ones.

Once upon a time there was just ONE printing press in the world. Now anyone can have one (printer) or more. Today we hae to go to a store to purchase items we want. In the not-too-distant future we may all be able to just make the item ourselves. What does that mean to Business? What does it mean for education?

Speak Up Press Release - 0 views

  • The 2007 online survey collected authentic, unfiltered views and ideas from over 367,000 education stakeholders representing schools in all 50 states, bringing the total of survey participants to over 1.2 million over the past 5 years.
  • This disconnect is evident in the fact that 66% of school administrators, 47% of teachers, and 43% of parents say "local schools are doing a good job preparing students for the jobs and careers of the future," but over 40% of middle and high school students stated that teachers limit their use of technology in schools. Forty-five percent of middle and high school students indicated that tools meant to protect them, such as firewalls and filters are inhibiting their learning.
  • "It is in our nation's best interest that we support and facilitate student usage of technology for learning."
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • 46% said they would like to receive specific professional development on how to effectively integrate gaming technologies into curriculum.
  • With the release of Speak Up 2007 results, Evans called upon education leaders at all levels to put aside their own "digital immigrant" paradigms and to listen to students who are not only on the cutting edge of technology innovation but whose future is dependent upon our ability to deliver upon the promise of a world quality, global 21st century education.
