CS Unplugged is a collection of free learning activities that teach Computer Science through engaging games and puzzles that use cards, string, crayons and lots of running around. The activities introduce students to underlying concepts such as binary numbers, algorithms and data compression, separated from the distractions and technical details we usually see with computers. CS Unplugged is suitable for people of all ages, from elementary school to seniors, and from many countries and backgrounds. Unplugged has been used around the world for over fifteen years, in classrooms, science centers, homes, and even for holiday events in a park!

Classrooms that Excel will introduce Microsoft Excel spreadsheet procedures that may be integrated into instruction across the curriculum.  Participants will develop lessons and activities that engage students - collect data, organizing data, compute results, summarize, chart, and present analysis.  Basic Excel procedures are easy to learn and offers a variety of opportunities for teachers to implement real world problem solving and applications.   The eight online lessons require approximately two hours each to complete.

Not all of these sites will be open to you at school, but I thought it was an interesting collection of sites where you can quickly learn something new each day. Granted, it may not always be something you WANT to learn, but there y' have it. :)

Do your students have aggregators? Why not set up a tab to subscribe to these sites (those that have feeds) so they might stumble upon something new to learn each day.

Cool site! a free collection of educational videos for students ages 3-18. There are more then 11,000 videos on such subjects as math, science, and history. Students, parents and teachers have designated pages and the site offers a guide for contributors. Featured videos originate from national Geographic, YouTube, and google Videos, among others, and have been endorsed by educators from universities such as Harsvard, Standford, and Brigham Young University.

Get great book recommendations from people you know. Keep track of what you've read and what you'd like to read. Form a book club, answer book trivia, collect your favorite quotes.

Lesson for teaching students about algorithmic culture

I was hunting down a good interactive for students to learn and practice the food chain. Build a Food Chain has students order the elements of a food chain. Along the way, students learn why each animal within a food chain is so important. In addition to learning the basics of a food chain, students will learn about bioaccumulation.
