Johns Hopkins Brain Science Institute - 0 views

  •
The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine's Brain Science Institute (BSi) brings together both basic and clinical neuroscientists from across the Johns Hopkins campuses. The BSi represents one of the largest and most diverse groups in the University. The goals of our research is to foster new programs in basic neuroscience discovery, initiate a translational research program that will develop new treatments for brain-based diseases and encourage collaboration, interdisciplinary teams, and new thinking that will have a global influence on research and treatment of the nervous system.

Reseach Mission is to advance neuromuscular functional assessment using objective measurements of muscle tone, strength, and gait. Goal: To apply innovative techniques to facilitate improved treatment strategies and research evaluation. Our work includes measurement of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal function and dysfunction, with emphasis on quantification of the interrelationships of muscle tone, strength, and gait related to medical diagnosis such as: *Cerebral Palsy*Parkinson's Disease*Spinal Cord Injury *Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis*Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus*Obesity*Normal aging *Stroke*Transverse Myelitis*Traumatic Brain Injury

Pharmacokinetics of Immediate-Release vs. Delayed-Release Omeprazole in Gastroparesis - 0 views

  •
Completed study comparing the blood drug levels of two prescribed medications, Immediate-release omeprazole 40 mg powder and delayed-release omeprazole 40 mg capsule to determine which drug is better absorbed in patients with a slow stomach emptying (gastroparesis). Delayed-release omeprazole has a protective coating to prevent the drug omeprazole from being neutralized by stomach acid. Immediate-release omeprazole has sodium bicarbonate (antacid) which neutralizes the stomach acid, eliminating the need for a protective coating. Immediate-release omeprazole suspension may have a more rapid pharmacokinetic profile and greater overall drug absorption in gastroparesis.

A Study to Evaluate Safety, Side Effects, Muscle Activity and Speed of Gastric Emptying... - 0 views

  •
Completed study on Motilin, a peptide, whose action is controlled by motilin receptors located in the gut. Action of Motilin at motilin receptors increases the gastric emptying rate (rate of emptying of food and fluid from the stomach). Compounds which stimulate motilin receptors therefore provide a potential approach to the treatment of a range of clinical conditions where delayed gastric emptying may contribute to symptoms, such as enteral feeding ntolerance (post-operative or intensive care patients), gastroparesis, diabetic gastroparesis, and functional dyspepsia. This study is the First Time In Human study for the motilin receptor agonist, GSK962040.

Effect of Protein Composition on Gastric Emptying - 1 views

  •
Planned future study investigating the protein composition of nutrition may affect the rate of gastric emptying and gastric pysiology. This is espesially important in children with neurologic impariment, who commonly rely on tube feedings, have feeding proThe intent is to find out whether 4 different protein sources affect the rate of gastric emptying and electrofysiology in this group of children
