Teaching hospital and home of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics Connecticut Children's Medical Center is the largest pediatric primary care service for children between Boston and New York. Pediatricians provide primary care services such as well-child checkups and immunizations, and care for minor illnesses. Emergency room staffed serves approximately 30,000 patients annually. Constraint-Induced Movement (CI) therapy has been found to be a promising treatment for substantially increasing the use of extremities affected by such neurologic injuries as stroke and traumatic brain injury in adults. The purpose of this study was to determine the applicability of this intervention to young children with cerebral palsy. Study concluded that Pediatric Constraint Induced Therapy produced major and sustained improvement in motoric function in the young children with hemiparesis in the study.
