Fetal ST Segment and T Wave Analysis in Labor - ClinicalTrials.gov - 0 views

  •
2010 Ongoing study being conducted by NICHD - STAN Fetal Heart Monitor trial at clinicaltrials.gov - Research to test a new instrument, called a fetal STAN monitor, that may be used during labor to monitor the electrical activity of the baby's heart. This new instrument is designed to help the doctor determine how well the baby is doing during labor. It will be used along with the existing electronic fetal monitor used to measure the baby's heart rate and the mother's contractions during birth. The specific purpose of this research study is to see if this new instrument (fetal STAN monitor) will have an impact on newborn health.

Intermittent versus continuous electronic monitori... [Br J Obstet Gynaecol. 1994] - Pu... - 0 views

  •
Sweden study to compare the efficacy in detecting signs of fetal hypoxia in labour of intermittent (I-group) versus continuous (C-group) electronic fetal monitoring in women with low or moderate risk factors for fetal distress. Study concluded that Intermittent use of electronic fetal monitoring at regular intervals (with stethoscopic auscultation in between) appears to be as safe as continuous electronic fetal monitoring in low risk labours. prospective, randomised study."

  •
FDA.gov - Device Approvals and Clearances - STAN S31 Fetal Heart Monitor. STAN® S31 Fetal Heart Monitor is new type of fetal monitor that uses the fetal electrocardiogram (ECG) obtained through a fetal scalp electrode during labor to help the doctor or midwife decide whether to allow the mother to continue to labor or to intervene and deliver the baby.

Intrapartum computerized fetal heart rate paramete... [Obstet Gynecol. 2003] - PubMed r... - 0 views

  •
University of Weatern Ontario, Canada study to estimate to what extent computerized fetal heart rate (FHR) parameters are affected by labor and to estimate the relationship between FHR parameters and the degree of fetal metabolic acidosis in laboring patients at term. Study concluded that in term pregnant women with reassuring FHR tracing, labor causes an increase in both short- and long-term FHR variation, which was abolished in the presence of nonreassuring FHR tracing. Computer-derived FHR parameters studied during the last hour of labor were not correlated with the degree of metabolic acidosis as measured in the umbilical artery at birth.

A Brain-Recording Device that Melts into Place: National Institute of Neurological Diso... - 0 views

  •
NINDS - a Brain-Recording Device that Melts into Place - The technology could pave the way for better devices to monitor and control seizures, and to transmit signals from the brain past damaged parts of the spinal cord. "These implants have the potential to maximize the contact between electrodes and brain tissue, while minimizing damage to the brain. They could provide a platform for a range of devices with applications in epilepsy, spinal cord injuries and other neurological disorders," said Walter Koroshetz, M.D., deputy director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), part of the National Institutes of Health.

Cerebral Function Monitoring in Premature Infants - NICHD - 0 views

  •
Observational study tests the feasibility of enrolling subjects and obtaining an amplitude-integrated electroencephalogram (aEEG) within the first 72 hours of life, a second aEEG recording between 72-168 hours of life, and weekly thereafter up to 36 weeks post-menstrual age. It will enroll 85-100 infants between 401-1,000 grams birth weight OR between 23 0/7 and 28 6/7 weeks gestational age born at the 7 participating NICHD Neonatal Research Network sites.

The prediction and prevention of intrapartum fetal... [Am J Obstet Gynecol. 2001] - Pub... - 0 views

  •
Canadian study to examine the roles of clinical risk scoring, electronic fetal heart monitoring and fetal blood gas and acid-base assessement in the prediction of intrapartum fetal asphyxia in term pregnancies. The study concluded that although fetal heart rate patterns will not discriminate all asphyxial exposures, continuous fetal heart rate monitoring supplemented by fetal blood gas and acid-base assessment can be a useful fetal assessment paradigm for intrapartum fetal asphyxia

Evaluation of the newborn's blood gas status -- Brouillette and Waxman 43 (1): 215 -- C... - 0 views

  •
Clinical Chemistry - 1997 NACB Symposium - Evaluation of the newborn's blood gas status - This paper discusses considerations for interpretation of blood gases in the newborn period. Blood gas measurements and noninvasive estimations provide important information about oxygenation. Its determined that Blood gas measurements and complementary, noninvasive monitoring techniques provide the clinician with information essential to patient assessment, therapeutic decision making, and prognostication. Blood gas measurements are as important for ill newborn infants as for other critically ill patients, but unique challenges are provided by rapidly changing physiology, difficult access to arterial and mixed venous sampling sites, and small blood volumes.

Surfactant Positive Airway Pressure and Pulse Oximetry Trial - Full Text View - Clinica... - 0 views

  •
Ongoing study sponsored by NICHD will compare the use of continuous positive airway pressure initiated at birth with the early administration of surfactant administered through a tube in the windpipe within 1 hour of birth for premature infants born at 24 to 27 weeks gestation. In addition, these infants within 2 hours of birth, will have a special pulse oximeter placed to continuously monitor their oxygen saturation in two different target ranges (85-89% or 91-95%). This study will determine whether or not these two management strategies affect chronic lung disease and survival of premature infants.
