The Center on Human Development and Disability - A comprehensive interdisciplinary center. The Center on Human Development and Disability (CHDD) at the University of Washington makes important contributions to the lives of people with developmental disabilities and their families through a comprehensive array of research, clinical services, training, community outreach, and dissemination activities.

The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Research on Education and Human Development was one of twelve original members of a national network of Mental Retardation Research Centers created by the Kennedy administration in 1963. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of persons with disorders caused by the disruption of typical development. We support and apply scientific research to bring better services and training to the community.

HDI is part of a nationwide network of University Centers for Excellence. Provides a strong foundation for more than 40 research, training and service projects, addressing a wide range of topics and issues in areas such as early childhood, education and alternate assessment, transition across the lifespan, employment, community living, and personnel preparation. Funded through the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000, and is administered through the U.S. Administration on Developmental Disabilities, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

NICHD National Institute of Health Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health & Human Development - Center for Research for Mothers & Children CRMC - CRMC serves as a principal source of NIH support for research and research training in maternal and child health. Supported scientists are advancing fundamental and clinical knowledge concerning maternal health and child development problems, such as gestational diabetes, antecedents of adult diseases, obesity and overweight, specific learning disabilities, mechanisms of cognition and learning, growth retardation, HIV/AIDS, and other congenital infections and diseases. The Center also houses the primary federal research entity for research to understand the effects and effectiveness of pharmaceuticals on maternal and child health, as well as a large portfolio on the unique aspects of HIV/AIDS in women and mothers.

NICHD Center for Developmental Biology & Perinatal Medicine (CDBPM). The CDBPM supports scientists who are advancing fundamental and clinical knowledge about maternal health and problems of child development, including preterm labor and birth, intellectual and developmental disabilities, congenital and genetic disorders, fetal growth restriction, and other conditions. The Center and its programs aim to maximize human development, prevent diseases and disorders, and improve diagnoses, therapy, and clinical care.

Provides the information and tools parents need to understand the uniqueness of children and to enable them to help each child develop into the successful human being they were meant to be. Our mission is to help parents develop a positive parenting style that leads to a family where parents and children can listen to each other, support each other and have fun playing and enjoying family activities.

The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Research on Human Development is a Eunice Kennedy Shriver Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (EKS IDDRC) dedicated to improving the quality of life of persons with disorders of thinking, learning, perception, communication, mood and emotion caused by disruption of typical development.

Pittsburgh Development Center of Magee-Womens Research Institute explores the molecular biology of cell function-- in gametes, embryos, stem cells, maternal/fetal efficacy of assisted reproduction technologies, the origins of developmental diseases, the causes and prevention of adverse pregnancy outcomes and the potential of stem cells for treating human disease

Conducts and supports research on topics related to the health of children, adults, families, and populations. Some of these topics include:Reducing infant deaths; Improving the health of women, men, and families; Understanding reproductive health and fertility, infertility; Learning about growth and development; Examining, preventing and treating problems of birth defects and intellectual and developmental disabilities; and Enhancing well-being of persons through the lifespan with optimal rehabilitation research.

Boston University - Neuromuscular Research Center - established in October 1984. Its mission is to increase our understanding of human motor control and improve the quality of life for the neuromuscularly impaired. It pursues these goals by performing basic and applied research, and by developing new techniques and technology in electromyography and biomechanics. The NMRC has active collaborations with various hospitals and clinics in the Boston area as well as research groups in seven countries throughout the world.

Creates public databases, conducts research in computational biology, develops software tools for analyzing genome data, and disseminates biomedical information - all for the better understanding of molecular processes affecting human health and disease.

University of California - Irvine conducted successful study involving two compounds developed by UC Irvine and Northwestern University scientists that prevented cerebral palsy in preclinical animal trials, giving hope that a new drug for humans may be on the horizon
