The Ad Hoc Developmental Disabilities Task Force monitors the Developmental Disabilities Bill of Rights Act and the administration of the program through the Administration on Developmental Disabilities. The Act is authorized every three years and regulations and policy guidelines are developed based on the statute. The Task Force also reviews other developmental disability related issues.

They serve as a bridge between the university and the community, bringing together the resources of both to achieve meaningful change.

The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is responsible for federal programs that promote the economic and social well-being of families, children, individuals, and communities. ACF programs aim to achieve the following: *families and individuals empowered to increase their own economic independence and productivity; *strong, healthy, supportive communities that have a positive impact on the quality of life and the development of children; *partnerships with individuals, front-line service providers, communities, American Indian tribes, Native communities, states, and Congress that enable solutions which transcend traditional agency boundaries; *services planned, reformed, and integrated to improve needed access;*and a strong commitment to working with people with developmental disabilities, refugees, and migrants to address their needs, strengths, and abilities.

HDI is part of a nationwide network of University Centers for Excellence. Provides a strong foundation for more than 40 research, training and service projects, addressing a wide range of topics and issues in areas such as early childhood, education and alternate assessment, transition across the lifespan, employment, community living, and personnel preparation. Funded through the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000, and is administered through the U.S. Administration on Developmental Disabilities, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Research on Education and Human Development was one of twelve original members of a national network of Mental Retardation Research Centers created by the Kennedy administration in 1963. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of persons with disorders caused by the disruption of typical development. We support and apply scientific research to bring better services and training to the community.
