Get Serious About Social Learning by Focusing on What Matters by Eric Davidove : Learning Solutions Magazine - 0 views

  • Social learning has taken on a kind of religious fervor among learning practitioners during the past couple of years—and not without good reason. It often creates more powerful and enduring learning experiences; it helps people establish and leverage social connections to accelerate the distribution and sharing of experiences, content, and guidance; and it allows learners to be more productive, learn faster, and work smarter.
  • it’s easy to lose focus on what matters, and to assume the end game is the technology
  • A social learning strategy should paint a compelling picture of the future state, clearly articulate the business case for change, and outline the roadmap for how you will get from “here” to “there” (including what must change, stop, and continue)
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • Social learning, at its core, is a network of communities. This network is usually formed and accessed through the use of social media. The community network provides the “path” for an effective flow of information.
  • A community network is the primary source of advice, methods, leading practices, lessons learned, and innovation. It’s the “repository” of content, experience, and intelligence that enables people to learn, develop, and excel at work. The effectiveness and usefulness of the community network is a function of its size and make-up.
  • A new generation of learning is here. Today, employees are working in a very fast-paced environment and they need learning that is immediate, relevant, and delivered in the context of their work. Social media won’t do the job alone. Organizations must embrace social learning and adopt the leading practices presented in this article if they want their employees to keep their company on the cutting edge. Social learning works when it is born from a well thought-out strategy, is made up of mature community networks, is fueled by motivated members, is a resource of great content, and is guided by meaningful metrics. Take some of the ideas presented in this article and start implementing them now.

Google Latitude Does the Check-In Thing…Automatically: Tech News and Analysis « - 1 views

  • Google Latitude has allowed its 10 million users to see on a map approximately where their friends are. But until now, it provided no way for a user to pinpoint his own location with a check-in, a la Foursquare and others. Now users will be able not only to broadcast their exact location to their friends on Latitude but also to publicly share their check-ins through their Google Profile. They’ll also be able to garner “VIP” and “Guru” status based on the number of their check-ins. This is rather ho-hum news, considering so many other check-in services do much the same thing. But where things get interesting is that Google will allow users to automatically check themselves in to specific locations, without having to whip out their phone.

create a blog without a blog. Is there something you want to get off your chest, but there is no way you are going to create a blog just for that, and a tweet would never convey what you need conveyed? Well, if that is ever the case a visit to Freedom Share is in order. This site will enable you to have texts typed and posted without needing to create any kind of account, or even authenticate who you are via Facebook or Google. The site is free and open to just any person who wants to use it, and we are also talking about a site that can be used by people who know nothing about coding.

SDL and CoL with ICT by Dr Cheah Horn Mun - 2 views

  •
After viewing the video, I understand better of what is Self-directed learning (SDL) and collaborative learning (CoL) means.
  •
in CoL, perhaps the tasks have to be such that students are inter-dependent on each other. This would then promotes interaction amongst students. A simple task would end up in a divide and conquer as shared by Dr Cheah.

Foursquare Now 10 Million Strong: Has Your Business Checked-in? Brian Solis - 0 views

  • The Games Businesses Play with Customers Boomers and Generation X will remember the days when the Yellow Pages was the encyclopedia of local business. Now services such as Foursquare bring the Yellow Pages alive. Add to the fact that the people we know and trust share their experiences and endorsements or critiques with every checkin, we’re given access to something quite remarkable. Additionally, businesses are given a special opportunity to learn more about the people who are checking-in and also about those who are not. Foursquare offers a powerful set of business tools that can help local businesses, chains, destinations, you name it, more effectively connect with the people who can not only keep them in business, but grow it as well.
  •
What we can learn is the creation of more meaningful experiences, from this Foursquare study, is that reaches out to people and engages them.

Hangouts also now have an "On Air" feature, which allows any Google Plus user to tune in and watch. Furthermore, Hangouts now offer screensharing, a shared sketchpad, and names for Hangouts. But perhaps the killer app is Google Docs in Hangouts, which will open up the possibility of live collaborative work (especially once Google Apps accounts get access).

Prepare Yourselves: Facebook To Be Profoundly Changed - 0 views

  • Facebook launched three recent changes: revamped Friend Lists, a real-time news ticker, and the subscribe button. Friend Lists lets you share content with just your closest friends (with whom you have the strongest emotional connection), and the ticker lets you have real-time conversations with your friends as soon as they do anything. Subscribe lets you fill your News Feed with people you admire and respect, fostering a different type of emotional connection. But these changes are just the beginning. The changes Facebook will roll out on Thursday are designed to enhance the emotional connection its users have to each other through Facebook. These changes will make Facebook a place where nearly everything in your life is enhanced by your social graph. These changes will make it so you know your friends better than you ever thought you could. On Thursday, developers will be elated, users will be shellshocked and the competition will look ancient. On Thursday, Facebook will be reborn. Prepare yourselves for the evolution of social networking.
