Was chatting with a pri-school teacher friend of mine yesterday, and he casually mentioned that he had created his own e-portfolio using Google Sites too. I checked his e-portfolio out and I found it very inspiring - all the more since it's a classic showcase of what an e-portfolio can be - and one done by one of our own working Singaporean school teachers some more. :) Hopefully this example should help towards dispelling the misconception that e-portfolios are a high-tech "waste of time" that only adds extra to a teacher's workload.

Excellent find. It's something to showcase should anyone ask for examples of non-LMS type e-portfolios.

I llike my friend's summary: "The way we think affects the way we learn. If we think we passed a test because we're "smart", then we don't work so hard and learn less. If we think we passed a test because we "worked hard", then we work harder and learn more. And if we think making mistakes helps us learn (instead of making us look stupid), then we tend to learn more." I think this is one major reason why children can learn and master tough games so fast, but take forever to solve a Maths test problem.

I just happened to think: Imagine if this pattern-recognition tech concept could be adapted to mobile phones in the near future, it might make for a very powerful blended learning / augmented reality tool. :) According to the researcher, implementation for mobile devices is feasible. Possible applications for m-learning could be: gestural recognition, dynamic object association and the like. E.g. If we could use an iPhone/Kinect to track a student's movements and remotely control an external apparatus halfway across the globe (maybe explore an Amazonian jungle to study biodiversity first-hand), or help disabled students (maybe cerebral palsy sufferers) communicate their thoughts more clearly... or perhaps get the students to "air-sketch" Chinese/Tamil characters to produce music on the go... Search results for finding QR code generators that offer tracking services. This might help us determine how many people actually scan the QR codes.

CreateBuzz QR Code creates 2 types of QR Codes. One is normal, and the other is trackable. The trackable QR Code has a different URL. When it is read, it is actually reading the trackable URL which then redirects to the page that was defined initially. Quick tests on several devices and QR Code readers show that some QR Code readers did not do the re-direction. Hence these scans were not tracked. Alternatively, use bit.ly because it tracks clicks. Use the shorten URL to generate the QR Code. Any scan to the QR Code which points to the shorten URL will be recorded. It shows the time the scans were done and region as well.

The author of this short article is perpetuating a harmful myth for business reasons. An LMS is not the only or best way of enabling social learning.

Came across this Javascript library that can take in dynamic data from websites and convert them into all kinds of graphs and visualization maps. We could use this for our mind-maps too. And it's free open-source!

I came across this ePortfolio iPhone app. It's content-rich and I think could be a good resource for our students to use. 

Does the app actually help create a mobile portfolio or is it just a handy reference on e-portfolios?

A handy reference. There are other eportfolio iphone apps that do the creating of mobile eportfolios, such as Curtin University's iphone app. However, the problem is that those apps are specific to their eportfolio systems, so they are generally closed to non-university users. If I find one that is open (and uses open systems), I'll share here ASAP.

Am using this to automatically generate statistics for NIeFolio Helpdesk email, which can be used to show helpdesk efficiency statistics.

Thanks Bernard! After looking at the code, it's almost perfect except for one thing: we need to store the form on our own server. (But yes, the Google spreadsheet linked to the form should still be updated automagically.) Would it be ok to use CeL's own server to host our own HTML pages for this purpose?

If it's CeL services or related materials, having it in CeL server is not an issue. example : e-Fiesta 2012 registration page. For personal usage or for AGs I advise the htmls to be stored on their own server space.
