ASL in Academic Settings: Language Features - YouTube - 1 views

  •
This is a big issue we are facing in our community. This what I was mentioning about using media as academic resources. Also many different fields required a very specific vocabulary so often interpreters are not able to keep up with academic languages because they are taught the community language.

Day Five: Synchronous Learning Activities: Online Pedagogy - 2 views

  • Students collaborate with guests on projects to gain diverse expertise.
  • If a participant has a comment or question, he/she should type "!" for a comment or "?" for a question.
  • f a participant wishes to change the topic of conversation, this is signaled by typing "new?" or "new!". If no one objects by typing "!" or "?" and proceeding with the present topic
  •
It's good to see the list of types of "interaction". It's something I'll want to go back to to guide not just what I want students to do... but, what I want us to do TOGETHER. The "Educause" links don't work for me.

Dealing with Cyberbullying in Schools: How to Respond - 0 views

  • As a teacher or school staff member, there are things you can do in the battle against online bullying. Support: Provide the person being bullied with support and reassurance. Tell them that they did the right thing by telling. Encourage the child to get help from parents, the school counsellor, principal or teachers. Ensure they know that there is support there for them Evidence: Help the child keep relevant evidence for investigations. This can be done by taking screenshots or printing web pages. Do not allow the deletion of phone messages Inform: Give the child advice for making sure it does not happen again. This can include changing passwords, contact details, blocking profiles on social networking sites or reporting abuse online No Retaliation: Ensure that the young person does not retaliate or reply to the messages Privacy: Encourage the child to keep personal information private on the internet Investigation: The cyberbullying claim needs to be investigated fully. If the perpetrator is known, ask them to remove offending remarks or posts. All records should be kept as part of the investigation. Report: Abuse on social networking sites or through text messaging needs to be reported to the websites and mobile phone service providers Guidelines: Your school will have a number of policy documents which you can refer to. These include the Acceptable Use Policy, Anti-bullying policies and Behaviour and Disciplinary Policies

(PDF) Using Flipgrid to develop social learning - 1 views

  • As is common on many social media platforms, videos can be ‘liked’ or ‘hearted’ to show agreement or approval.
  • This can lead to competitiveness, with the confidence of some students potentially dented if a video receives fewer views or likes than others. (This feature can be deactivated if the tutor so desires.)

I like this review of Extempore a lot because it lays out all that the tool can do in a clear way. It also gives it a rating and discusses ways in which it can be used.
  •
Agreed! An excellent overview, including videos! What I'd love to see, though, is what an Extempore session looks like in real time. Any suggestions?...
