Some of my students use LINE (similar to WhatsApp) to talk with their conversation partners in Japan to practice Japanese and learn about Japanese culture. Mobile phones play a great role in foreign language courses now.

I discovered this post from an earlier carlatech class when searching "German" in our group, and I thought it was worth bringing to our group's attention. The site offers hundreds of songs in many languages. Would make for a fun Friday reward activity.

Interesting--when you re-post an older bookmark, it shows up with the date of the original posting, but I added this on 19 Jul 13.

I wish there was Arabic as well.

Excellent resource. Three levels, Karaoke and Expert options seem fun. What is really interesting is ability for instructor to customize their own activities.
  •
Fun resource. As always, though, I would recommend proofing the exercises. I just noticed a number of transcription errors in some of the songs.
  •
Awesome resource, thanks for sharing, I can use this for my weekend school. Middle school students would really enjoy it. :D

anyone try the karaoke? or, is there another karaoke site? i have a student trip to Mexico City coming up and my wouldn't that be a fabulous fundraiser!

How to Use Google Slides in the Classroom - The Tech Edvocate - 1 views

  • Third, teachers can encourage collaborative learning in a number of ways with Google Slides. An assignment could be designed so that each student creates their own slides; once combined into one presentation, students can learn from each other. Or, small groups can collaborate on one slide presentation in real-time and then present their slides to the class, allowing for an engaging student presentation.

I took this idea for my lesson. I would like to add a piece with Pear Deck or Poll Everywhere to augment it. I have seen both apps used, but have never used them myself.

This is a great idea for using with Poll Everywhere. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! I used GS so much this past year, and yet did not use it deliberately to encourage collaboration and community-building. This gives me great ideas.

  • A face-to-face conversation while simultaneously reading might have been a distraction. However, by typing their thoughts, all students contributed their ideas while each having the autonomy to work at his or her own pace.

    • sarahlbassett

"The conversations were never lost" - this is a great point!  Students could read and re-read past conversations.  With a traditional speaking/listening conversation, it isn't possible to read at all, let alone re-read.

  • Charlie needed an alternative means to participate, and a backchannel would have provided him with that outlet.
  • a digital conversation that runs concurrently with a face-to-face activit
  • TodaysMeet would have let teachers create private chat rooms so that students could ask questions or leave comments during class. A Padlet wall might have fueled students to share their ideas as text, images, videos, and links posted to a digital bulletin board. The open response questions available in a student response system like Socrative or InfuseLearning could have become discussion prompts to give each student an opportunity to share his or her ideas before engaging in class discussion.

Start With Students: One Teacher's Design-Thinking Journey | Education Innovation D.C. - 5 views

We use iPads for games and other online learning apps on a regular basis.  Students have tracked their progress on apps only as far as getting so far = stickers/rewards.  Goal setting wasn't involved, nor were specific goals related to skills students needed to learn.  This could be a simple addition to our stations to make classroom learning with iPad apps more effective.
  •
How to incorporate technology into station learning.
  •
Hi Diane: I am wondering, does your school support iPads for students in your class? or, is it required that they purchase their own. Is this an online class or a face-face class?
  •
We have a classroom set of iPads that are available. Students don't purchase them, the school got them through a grant.
