10 Great Green Opportunities - EMagazine.com - 0 views

  •
10 Great Green Opportunities October 31, 2007 | Brita Belli | Everything's coming up green. Across every industry, new job possibilities are emerging for those with the skills to bridge the divide between the old, fossil-fuel-based economy and the new, energy-efficient one. Corporations once demonized for their role in creating pollution and exploiting workers are being held accountable; they are partnering with nonprofits and hiring corporate social responsibility managers. They are finding that reducing their impact is as good for future profits as for the planet at large. There's no secret to getting a job in the new green economy. It's as basic as applying the job skills you've already developed (web design, sales, management) to a nonprofit or sustainable industry, or coordinating sustainable practices from within a corporate entity. Sometimes, as in green building or solar panel installing, these green jobs require a specific set of skills-and classes are organizing to fill the growing need. Other times, as in the organic food industry, ecotourism or sales and marketing of energy-efficient technology, anyone with a good work ethic can get in and create a great green career.

"After three rounds of interviews for a sales position with Prudential Insurance Co. of America, Patricia Rosa received a letter in February saying her job application was denied based on information from a background check she authorized the company to conduct. "When James Marvin retired from the Navy Seals in September, he had two choices: seek a civilian government position in his current state of Virginia or pursue the unknown. He chose the latter. "We literally put the 'for sale' sign on our home, packed up the minivan, and drove cross-country," says Mr. Marvin, 44, who moved to Seattle with his wife and daughter to pursue a position with an alternative energy company."

Making humor a part of your pitch can work wonders - WSJ.com - 0 views

For most entrepreneurs, sales calls aren't a laughing matter. But maybe they should be. Making humor a part of your pitch can work wonders, says Burt Teplitzky, a stand-up comedian, author and corporate trainer in Los Angeles. Jokes can help establish a rapport with customers, release tension and increase your "likability factor"-all of which can make it a lot easier to close a deal.

What's Wrong With America's Job Engine? - WSJ.com - 0 views

  •
Over the past 10 years: * The U.S. economy's output of goods and services has expanded 19%. * Nonfinancial corporate profits have risen 85%. * The labor force has grown by 10.1 million. * But the number of private-sector jobs has fallen by nearly two million. * And the percentage of American adults at work has dropped to 58.2%, a low not seen since 1983. What's wrong with the American job engine? As United Technologies Corp. Chief Financial Officer Greg Hayes put it recently: "Sales have come back, but people have not.''

Don't Discuss Irrelevant Job Experiencesand Achievements - 0 views

Employers at big corporations don't care if you dressed as Donald Duck in Disneyland for extra cash to pay off your tuition while going to college. You'd be better off saving that information for a fun conversation at your next company lunch meeting. However if you were the executive manager at a retail store, and are applying for a sales position, you can illustrate the people, organizational, and leadership skills that you acquired in your previous position.

What does your career horoscope look like in the year 2019 - Akashvaani - 0 views

  •
Vedic astrology readings for the year 2019 are calculated based on your moon sign and not just sun sign as of western astrology. For those people, who are planning to make major career and business decisions and moves in this year, let's look at what is predicted in each sign's horoscopes in relation to career. Saturn is transiting Sagittarius in the Venus Nakshatra in 2019. Those looking for a government job astrology also meet with success in this year. Lot of travel is also indicated and this may upset the work-life balance and increase stress on the job front. Taking some time off is advisable, and overall it is a great year for those in sales and marketing also.
