If you advertise your services or events such as career or job fairs, reporters may follow up. If the economy is in a downturn, with major employers eliminating jobs and millions of people re-thinking their career futures, reporters may come to you as an expert source of comment and analysis. If the economy is expanding and people are exploring new work options, reporters may seek observations about the resulting trends. If your organization issues a press release, you should be prepared to field any inquiries that result."

When Family Mental Illness Unbalances - The Juggle - WSJ - 0 views

  •
"Taking time off work when your kid gets the flu or chicken pox is usually a routine matter. But how do you explain your time-off needs if your teen - or spouse or partner -becomes too depressed to get out of bed, or your child becomes too anxious to go to school? Helping out a troubled loved one in such cases poses a dilemma, because the stigma placed on mental illness forces most people to keep it a secret. Yet a new survey shows people are taking off a surprisingly large amount of work time for this purpose. Some 41% of working adults took from four to nine days off work in the past year to deal with a mental-health issue of their own, or of a friend, family member or co-worker, says a recent survey of 669 working adults by Workplace Options."

Career Advice: That Shocking Time of Year - Inside Higher Ed - 0 views

  •
Every year at about this time I find myself humming, "It's May; it's May," a song from the musical Camelot. This year I took a closer look at the lyrics. I had missed the second half of a couplet mid-song: "The month of great dismay." For the many people on the job market who are still in limbo, that line has probably become a too-familiar refrain. Now that you've reached May without a job, what are your options?

  •
With the education industry growing at a fast yet steady rate in the past few years, opening a Montessori school franchise India is definitely a very lucrative option. In fact the preschool sector of the education industry is extremely unorganized with relatively much less regulatory limitations. Thus this sector is largely dominated by huge investments and minimal infrastructural investment with huge ROI on the same.

CUNY Proposes a Leaner Core Curriculum, to Faculty's Dismay - Curriculum - The Chronicl... - 0 views

  • The proposed structure would also unify a set of general-education requirements that now vary widely from campus to campus, both in emphasis and in the number of credits required, which ranges from 39 to 63. Under the new structure, CUNY's students would take their first 30 credits in two categories. The first would be a 12-credit "required core" composed of six credits in English, and three each in mathematics and science. The division of those core credits reflects a revision, suggested by some faculty, to the original draft requirements.
  • The second category would be an 18-credit "flexible core," in which students would take six three-credit classes encompassing five different areas: world cultures and global issues; U.S. experience in its diversity; creative expression; the individual and society; and the scientific world. Students would be able to choose a class from a range of disciplines to satisfy each area. For example, a student could take a course in world literature, history, economics, sociology, or political science to meet the requirement for world cultures and global issues. Each of the system's four-year campuses will also develop requirements for an additional 12 "college option" credits, bringing to 42 the total number of core credits required under the new plan.
