Creating, Shaping and Managing your Internet Presence - 0 views

  •
Internet presence is user-generated content on the Internet about you and/or your business. For example, you created a web page to showcase your work at a university, or you posted a note to your blog, or you added a topic to a discussion board like Career Development Forums. In most instances, you created that content, or you had someone create it for you. However, since anyone can add content to the Internet about you and your work, you should at least be aware of your IP and monitor it.

  •
Ah yes, Networking. Today, it has become a common exercise in the workplace and a vital part of the advancement of most careers. Networking can be accomplished anywhere these days, whether it be outside on a sidewalk, or at an obvious networking cocktail event. If it is done successfully, it can help you meet a future mentor, move you effectively toward an initial interview, or even allow you to make a lasting first impression with your first boss. However, successful networking can often times be harder than it sounds. Sometimes, it is hard to know all the right things to say or do and how to turn a 15-minute conversation into a potential life-lasting connection. With that in mind, I have developed a basic 5-step guide that gives the basics on how to untangle this mystery and turn any previously nerve wracking networking event into an exciting time of opportunity.

Helping Students Identify Their True Colors: Career Colors That Is - 0 views

  •
For learning to occur, younger students in particular often need to experience learning in a way that is meaningful to them. Teaching about careers to these students can be challenging especially since the concept of a career represents an aspect of human development which is far off in the future and associated with something that is "adult-like." The idea of a vocation or career represents a certain level of abstractness that students may not be developmentally ready for. Teaching middle and high school students about careers through activities and games may serve as the perfect conduit as students naturally like to learn while being active and engaged.

Traditionally, in a mentoring relationship, a senior-level person provides guidance, support, and information for a younger person just beginning in a career. However, with rapid changes in the workplace, people living and working longer, and several career/job movements and shifts being the norm, an up-dated perspective of mentoring and learning is needed.

CUNY Proposes a Leaner Core Curriculum, to Faculty's Dismay - Curriculum - The Chronicl... - 0 views

  • The proposed structure would also unify a set of general-education requirements that now vary widely from campus to campus, both in emphasis and in the number of credits required, which ranges from 39 to 63. Under the new structure, CUNY's students would take their first 30 credits in two categories. The first would be a 12-credit "required core" composed of six credits in English, and three each in mathematics and science. The division of those core credits reflects a revision, suggested by some faculty, to the original draft requirements.
  • The second category would be an 18-credit "flexible core," in which students would take six three-credit classes encompassing five different areas: world cultures and global issues; U.S. experience in its diversity; creative expression; the individual and society; and the scientific world. Students would be able to choose a class from a range of disciplines to satisfy each area. For example, a student could take a course in world literature, history, economics, sociology, or political science to meet the requirement for world cultures and global issues. Each of the system's four-year campuses will also develop requirements for an additional 12 "college option" credits, bringing to 42 the total number of core credits required under the new plan.
  • December 2, 2011 CUNY Proposes a Leaner Core Curriculum, to Faculty's Dismay By Dan Berrett
  •
"The committee charged with designing a new core curriculum for the City University of New York released on Thursday its final recommendations, and faculty leaders quickly faulted both the substance of the proposal and the process used to produce it."
