Mostly free and easy to use--all online. Can be very useful for diagraming sentences, charting the plot for a collaborative story or project, etc.

An excellent video of the teacher and students using the lesson plan, this lesson from the Teaching Channel walks you through preparation for a writing assignment. It was developed through an EQuIP Peer Review Panel to ensure alignment with the Common Core standards, and was created by teachers and administrators working with the Massachusetts Dept of Elementary and Secondary Ed Model Curriculum Project. It uses a "Smart Chart" to deepen student understanding of rhetorical devices and has students collaborate in a ranking activity. Has links to a place where you can submit your own lessons for a free EQuIP panel review, and links to other related lesson plans.

"You start by creating a seating chart that shows where students are sitting for a discussion. When the discussion starts, you just tap each student's icon as that student contributes to the conversation. This is such a fun site -- you can make Arcade-like games -- or your students can do it for each other. Has dozens of interesting activities as well, such as a QR game generator, jigsaw puzzle, animated book, timeline, fishbone chart, etc. Mouse over the list of Templates to find a visual preview of each activity. One of the most useful sites I've found.

Students and/or teachers can make and share learning games on this, site, for example, a customized Jeopardy review of vocabulary or a board game where players must answer questions about a reading to advance. Also contains teacher tools such as a seating chart maker, a group maker to randomly assign students to groups, etc. And also lots of links to population counters, hangman, random fact generator, etc.

Charts demonstrate various content areas and expected depth of knowledge. This is a good blog with many interesting articles.

This is a great online tool, and will accept pictures or icons for the students' names. Can assign attendance check for all students at once. Video tutorial.
