R. Stannard shows how to use Quizlet and find ready-made sets in the interface. Quizlet also works inside Edmodo and can be used for tests and assessments. He also recommends that you teach students how to use Quizlet themselves, so as to review concepts and vocabulary for themselves.

This is a round-up of ways to add interactive elements to your own videos. These can enhance videos for flipped lessons. One of these tools is YouTube itself, which has built-in annotation tools. Mad Video lets you insert interactive tags to websites, images, or other video directly into YouTube videos. WireWax lets you insert a different audio track into the original video, while Blubbr creates video-based quizzes. Have fun!

Adaptive learning games that you or your students can create and share. A great many games and quizzes are already to use on the site and will give you ideas for quick assessments. Similar in some respects to Quizlet.

A few things of interest -- content, dictionary, "lessons" based on quizzes, BBC Languages (40 different ones) with an area for children, etc. The problem with lists is that there is no categorizing or selection process.

This quick intro to Quizlet is a good start up for a porgram that lets the user review vocabulary through quizzes and games. R. Stannard suggests using pre-made flashcards, rather than making your own each time. This video links to several more advanced features of Quizlet.

A great tool for developing quickly memorized vocabulary. The teacher (or students) can add pictures. The tool creates quizzes of various types--type in the answer, drag and drop, etc., after you have had a learning period. Many different uses and offers so much variety the student is dragged more practice than he expects!

R. Stannard reviews the CMS Edmodo platform, which let's you set up a virtual learning environment for students quickly and easily, and it's free. Edmodo is a wonderful for creating a class community, as well as setting assignments, creating quizzes, polls, and rubrics.

A very handy app for adding titles/captions directly on a photo, either plain text or in color, rotated, fancy font, etc. Thi is iPhone and iPad, but check out what might be available for other smart mobile devices. Use for vocabulary self-quizzes shared on social media or among classmates, and for project-based learning.

"CK-12.org is a non-profit organization dedicated to education. Their website offers a large collection of resources for students and teachers like Brain Genie which I previously shared. The bulk of their resources are math and science centered where students can learn about chemistry, physics, algebra, and geometry just to name four. They also offer resources for other content areas as well including history, English, and SAT prep. Their website is free to join and offers a wealth of learning resources and activities. Their site offers articles, quizzes, interactive lessons, videos and students can keep track of their learning as they complete lessons and activities and members can upload their own resources to the site as well. " This looks like a good attempt to crowd-source materials for K-12 in the U.S. Could have uses for ESL/EFL, particularly with content- and project-based learning.

"The invention of the LMS (Learning Management System) was a mistake. And here I'm not going to make the same frustrated argument made numerous times before now that LMSs are limiting structures, that their interface and functionalities control how teachers teach online (although those things are true). The LMS was a mistake because it was premature. In a world that was just waking up to the Internet and the possibility of widely-networked culture, the LMS played to the lowest common denominator, creating a "classroom" that allowed learning -- or something like learning -- to happen behind tabs, in threaded discussions, and through automated quizzes. The LMS was not a creative decision, it was not pushing the capabilities of the Internet, it was settling for the least innovative classroom practice and repositioning that digitally. As a result classes taught within its structure generally land with a dull thud. No matter how creative and inspired the teacher or pedagogue behind the wheel, the LMS is no match for the wideness of the Internet. It was born a relic -- at its launch utterly irrelevant to its environment and its user." Very thought-provoking article on how digital pedagogy really differs from just "teaching online."

A look atMOOCs from the co-founder of Coursera. Shows how video lectures are delivered with spot-check questions and feedback, and the use of peer/self grading. The conversations, home-work assignments, and so on, are all data fodder for an examination of how MOOC learning works. Students were also self-selected into virtual and land-based study groups. Feedback on quizzes and spot-checks also led to the development of "individualized" responses to wrong answers/misconceptions. Demonstrates how tutoring one-on-online is far better than lecture courses. The goal of Coursera is to ignite students creativity through active learning.

"You can create playlists of learning content including videos, articles, webistes, blog posts etc. The students can work through the content and then do the quizzes at the end or at any point where you want to check understanding. The learning playlists can also be embedded into blogs, Moodle etc." A way "to push students through a particular content." Students can create their own playlists, too.

Flubaroo uses Goggle+ to help teachers create short quizzes for their lectures. You can email grades/scores individually, set hints and directions for further study, etc.
