Jing can be used to make a screencast of what's on your monitor--including a Powerpoint persentation--pretty cool! Jing Pro is $15/year.

Nice little tutorial video to show how to get started with Jing, the screencapture/recording program, when using a Mac.

I thought Jing had disappeared, but it seems you can still use it: Capture your computer screen in a basic video; capture animations, and still images; share on the Web. Edit on Screencast.com, also by TechSmith.

Snagit is a little older than Jing, but does a couple of interesting additional things, like enhancing the images with stamps, text, and effects. It also is easy to share on social media sites like Facebook.

You can download the slides from this talk by R. Stannard at Oxford University. Stannard speaks about 3 great ICT tools - Jing, BrainShark, and Present.ME -- and how they are used for feedback, speaking, and reflection.

Screen capture and desktop recording tools: considers CamStudio, Active Presenter, BB Flashback, Jing, Screenspresso, and the free trial version of Camtasia Studio. These are useful tools for creating screencasts and presentations (which are really usually two very different functions). Doesn't mention anything mobile.

This great blog entry has a good description of free tools and their advantages and drawbacks. BTW, Jing is highly recommended and used by Russell Stannard.

Download a small app and record videos of your screen for training others. (See Jing.) I haven't tried this one, but it seems to have a helpful series of Help videos.

"Here are few tools which can be used to create tutorials. These screen casting tools are free alternative to some of the higher priced utilities. This list covers both PC and Mac utilities." But it doesn't specifiy which are Mac-only or PC-only, so it takes a little experimenting. I didn't realize there was a free, open source version of Camtasia. A good list, except Jing is apparently going to disappear -- get in now!

10 Great ELT sites - online training videos. The nice thing that Russell Stannard does is make a Jing video of each site, so when you arrive there, you already know what it does and how to get it to work for you. You can sign up to get an email whenever Russell adds a new site.

Stannard' describes the website, MeeGenius (http://www.meegenius.com), which reads books aloud to young children. Many books are free, and you hear it as written, or personalize the book, for instance, by giving names to the lion and the mouse in AEsop's fable.

Stannard gives a quick overview of http://www.rhymes.net, which helps you find words that rhyme with other words. But he doesn't mention that the site speaks the word too! There are also many other tools, such as a dictionary, words with multi-syllables, quotations using the word, phrases, abbreviations, etc. Great for vocabulary work, pronunciation, and writing poetry.

Totally cool, downloadable, free. You can make great screencasts of your desktop activities to show students how to open a program, edit a photo, etc.
