Odd.. I wonder if the news of this questionable decision on elks.org caused someone to rethink the closing. If one checks quidestar for the lodge's financials one would see that they were in above average shape.
Losing $73,000 is a lot so that is obviously a concern. Still, sometimes these 'special representatives' are not very people friendly. I've know a few who seem to get these high autocratic positions in the Elks and they abuse their power. Let's hope that is not the case either.
Interesting article and yes.. the fear of DUI's have contributed significantly to the reduction of participation among members. No question about that.
Here in NC, it is not uncommon for Law Enforcement spokespersons to warn motorists not to have even ONE drink. Between click it and ticket and don't drink and drive campaigns these questionable tactics average one campaign every 6 weeks or so. So it is no wonder most folks just stay the heck home.
