Now why would the leadership of any lodge sell their building without requesting permission from GL? And this is a lodge that is 115 years old? SMH If true, that's just a perfect illustration how far this organization has fallen. We do not seem to be attracting people with business and administration abilities or if we do then they are not willing to take on leadership responsibilities.

Good thing for a lodge to do. Trouble is that it comes so soon after the changing of the leadership, it is hard for the new ER to manage and do everything else. consequently, you need some PER's with some time to orchestrate this event. With so many PER retread's, most lodges (ours included) just don't have the manpower.

The summer golf calendar is filled with a myriad of benefit tournaments, but only a handful encompass such a worthy cause as the Arizona Elks Association Social Welfare Clothe-a-Child event. All the proceeds are used to purchase clothing for needy and disadvantaged children. "This is a statewide program, some of our clubs do it (donate clothes) at Christmas and some before the first day of school," said tournament chairman Becky Waer. "We do it through the schools, so it is kind of a confidential thing."

Local Elks Lodge Gets Applause! The State Library (USL) gave the Dixie Elks Lodge # 1749 in St. George a round of applause for their dedicated volunteer efforts for the blind. The Lodge was honored with a service award celebrating their 10 year partnership with USL. The Lodge has provided space in their building for volunteers to repair damaged cassette players. Thousands of cassette players have been repaired saving the State Library the cost of replacing the machines. "The State Library couldn't do what we do without volunteers," says State Librarian Donna Jones Morris. "Last year volunteers donated 1,245 hours repairing cassette players for the blind. It's estimated that the value of each hour of service is nearly $19 which totals more than $23,000 yearly."

Hard to believe how well this former Elks lodge is doing. GL really screwed up to lose this one.

They will need it.} It is more than likely that they have struggled, they haven't given up, and in my opinion have shown all of us what a determined membership can accomplish. This lodge apparently rents it's facilities to businesses who use it for commercial purposes. We have a few in our lodge who think that you can't do that. I aim to show that you can

"Tiffin Elks Lodge 94 is celebrating 127 years in Tiffin. Exalted Ruler Joe Steinmetz, who joined the lodge seven years ago, is helping plan the event with other members. Why celebrate 127 years? "We want to commemorate 127 years of benevolence in Tiffin and celebrate another 100 years of active involvement in our community," Steinmetz said. Friday, dinner and live entertainment will take place for members and guests. Events Saturday are open to the public at 106 E. Perry St. Indoor and outdoor activities are to continue all day Saturday, with proceeds to benefit Disabled American Veterans. At 8 a.m., registration opens for a 5K run or 1K walk. An opening ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. and the race steps off at 10 a.m., following a route along Riverside Drive and downtown Tiffin. Registration for the 5K and 1K can be done up to the day of the race at $15 per person. The age groups are: 12 and under; 13-19; 20-34; 35-50; and over 50. Forms can be obtained at the Elks, Clover Club, Madison Street Tavern, Varsity Barber Shop, Champs Barber Shop, Pit Stop, Reino's and Ace Hardware. Checks should be made payable to Tiffin Elks Lodge 94. A grill and beverage bar opens at noon to serve all day. A mini-golf challenge and cornhole tournament are to begin at 1 p.m. in the parking lot. The cost is $20 per team for the cornhole tournament.
