Local Elks Lodge Gets Applause! The State Library (USL) gave the Dixie Elks Lodge # 1749 in St. George a round of applause for their dedicated volunteer efforts for the blind. The Lodge was honored with a service award celebrating their 10 year partnership with USL. The Lodge has provided space in their building for volunteers to repair damaged cassette players. Thousands of cassette players have been repaired saving the State Library the cost of replacing the machines. "The State Library couldn't do what we do without volunteers," says State Librarian Donna Jones Morris. "Last year volunteers donated 1,245 hours repairing cassette players for the blind. It's estimated that the value of each hour of service is nearly $19 which totals more than $23,000 yearly."

Fond du Lac Elks Lodge 57, of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, is hosting the 2009 State Spring Convention of the Wisconsin Elks Association. Advertisement The event will run from April 30 to May 3 and hundreds of Elks from lodges throughout the state are expected to attend, according to a press release from the lodge. "We are pleased and proud to host national and state Elks leaders and so many Elk members from around Wisconsin who will be in Fond du Lac for our State Convention, and to show off our beautifully redecorated lodge building," said Brian Lorrigan, current Exalted Ruler of the Fond du Lac Lodge. "We look forward to partnering with our city's many hotels, motels, restaurants and businesses to give a warm welcome from the city and show the many nice things Fond du Lac has to offer."

"The State High Dance Marathon will run from 7 p.m. Feb. 12 to 7 a.m. Feb. 13 at the State High South Building gymnasium. About 300 State High students will dance during that time to raise money for the Pennsylvania Elks Home Service Program"

The Arizona Elks Association state convention was held May 7-9 in Tempe. Of the 49 Elks lodges throughout the state, the top two from each of the four districts were on hand to compete for the final prize: the privilege of representing the state at the National Elks Convention scheduled July 5-9 in Portland, Ore.

"Tiffin Elks Lodge 94 is celebrating 127 years in Tiffin. Exalted Ruler Joe Steinmetz, who joined the lodge seven years ago, is helping plan the event with other members. Why celebrate 127 years? "We want to commemorate 127 years of benevolence in Tiffin and celebrate another 100 years of active involvement in our community," Steinmetz said. Friday, dinner and live entertainment will take place for members and guests. Events Saturday are open to the public at 106 E. Perry St. Indoor and outdoor activities are to continue all day Saturday, with proceeds to benefit Disabled American Veterans. At 8 a.m., registration opens for a 5K run or 1K walk. An opening ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. and the race steps off at 10 a.m., following a route along Riverside Drive and downtown Tiffin. Registration for the 5K and 1K can be done up to the day of the race at $15 per person. The age groups are: 12 and under; 13-19; 20-34; 35-50; and over 50. Forms can be obtained at the Elks, Clover Club, Madison Street Tavern, Varsity Barber Shop, Champs Barber Shop, Pit Stop, Reino's and Ace Hardware. Checks should be made payable to Tiffin Elks Lodge 94. A grill and beverage bar opens at noon to serve all day. A mini-golf challenge and cornhole tournament are to begin at 1 p.m. in the parking lot. The cost is $20 per team for the cornhole tournament. Next, 8-11 p.m. is the "rooty music" of Dragon Wagon, with a mix of bluegrass, rock and folk. Steinmetz said the Elks National Foundation issues grants to qualifying lodges to meet community needs. Steinmetz said the Elks have partnered with organizations such as Winterfest and Tiffin-Seneca Heritage Festival and are looking for grant opportunities for both events this year. The Pennsylvania State Association, Improved, Benevolent, Protective, Order of the Elks of the World (I.B.P.O.E. of W.), 102 Years of the Pennsylvania State Association 86th State Convention will be held May 28 through June 2 at the Harrisburg East Holiday Inn, Hotel Conference Center, 4751 Lindle Road, Harrisburg.

The Maine Elks Association (MEA) recently honored several youths from across the State of Maine as part of their 80th Annual State Convention held at the Augusta Elks Lodge. The youths were recognized as state winners of contests sponsored by the association. The awards were presented at a special banquet, attended by over 200 members, guests, and families of the recipients.

FAIRMONT - Elks lodges in each state of the union sponsor what they call a "major project." For more than 60 years in the state of West Virginia, this project has been to host two camps for individuals with disabilities - one in the northern part of the state and one in the southern part. "The goal of the camp is to give these individuals the chance to have as close of a normal camping experience as possible," said Taffy Hower, director of the northern camp, held this week at Camp Muffly in Morgantown. The 48 participants are involved with typical camp activities such as swimming and basketball as well as different crafts. One craft, however, has a special purpose. Throughout the week, those involved with the camp work to create a quilt. Later on in the year, the quilt is raffled off by the Elks lodges to raise money for the following year's camp.

An East Hanover resident pleaded guilty today to stealing from an Elks Lodge and has agreed to cooperate with the state in its prosecution of former Morris County Tax Commissioner Anthony Crecco on the same theft charges. Advertisement Konstantin ''Stan'' Belenky, 42, was publicly revealed by authorities for the first time today as the unnamed co-conspirator referred to in a state grand jury indictment returned in April against Crecco, 62, of East Hanover. Belenky, an employee of the prominent real estate appraisal firm Certified Valuations, Inc., agreed as part of his plea to give up his public jobs as municipal tax assessor in Franklin, Somerset County, and in Berkeley Heights, Union County.

Missouri elks seem to be doing well

I've been to that lodge though its probably been 15 years. Georgia keeps on downsizing and there might not be a need for a state association. Sad.
