This infographic is interesting but scroll to the end and view the dramatic changes in student outcomes. This is a high school example but it seems that similar results could also be seen in remedial or gen ed type coursework in higher ed. Comments have some interesting resources, too.

It can be challenging to get "remedial" learners in higher ed to dive into doing work before class. Using resources like Khan Academy also mean your focus is on procedure, not understanding; if somebody needs to get through that math-course-you'll-never-use then it's a good too, but if real understanding is the goal then something more conceptually based (and something that's correct more consistently) would be in order.

Nice overview of how e-Learning and blended learning is being used in medical education.

This is an audio interview about online learning, mostly focusing on MOOCs. An interesting point of view regarding the availability and egalitarian nature of MOOCs as opposed to education provided through expensive universities. Although this is not exactly blended learning, as it focuses on totally online courses, I though it would be an interesting addition to the discourse.

A rather interesting article which attacks the basic premise around Blended Learning and asks what are we mixing to create the blend? Some valid points on how the definitions of e-Learning, blended learning and traditional learning are arguably inherently flawed.

I chose this article as it relates well to the ch 5 discussion regarding quality in blended courses.

Beth - so interested to see that you chose this article!! I participated in this study as the Quality Matters trainer. So the two groups (short training, long training) worked with me to learn how to apply QM to improve their courses. We have been Quality Matters subscribers for 6 years and incorporate it into all the training and development of online courses.

I feel strongly that blended learning should focus on formative assessment since face to face time is reduced.

Some programs are credit retrieval, others are expanded correspondence courses, and still others ask the student to do some thematic activities.

I liked this article because it mentions considerations needed for blended learning. I thought it added a "good start" to module one and our beginning tof this course.
