Gould, T. (2003, June). Hybrid classes: Maximizing institutional resources and student learning. In Proceedings of the 2003 ASCUE Conference (pp. 54-59).

This article gives the institutional reasons for blended learning: (1) save money by using physical resources more efficiently, and (2) save money on professional development--faculty ease into online/distance learning so they don't need as much training in technology and pay for designing curriculum.

The article also describes excellent reasons why student learning is maximized: (1) more student engagement; (2) more flexibility in students' work/school/home lives; (3) soft skills such as time management, critical thinking and problem solving are taught; (4) students write for others; and (5) students are part of a learning community that resembles the work place.
