Lee Kolbert: Protecting Reputations Online: A Lesson to Share and Then Create - 1 views

  • What if all middle and high school students had to watch this and then form groups of three or four and create their own similar video (or just stage it) to share their own story of caution for younger students?
  •
I see this as an excellent project idea for all NY CL schools and beyond.

Tree Project - 1 views

  •
Nice tie-in to Social Studies projects (most likely 8th grade). The trees that still live from the time of the atomic bombing in Hiroshima are called, Hibaku trees (A-bombed trees) -- I've sent away for some seeds for us.

Comparing Bloom's Taxonomy 1956 vs. 2000 - 1 views

  •
I am working with a 6th grade social studies teacher who was trying to improve his pedagogical techniques by referring to the original version of Bloom's taxonomy - I asked if he knew about the revised taxonomy and we quickly discovered this web site that explains the changes point-by-point. There is also a helpful UBD link on the bottom of the page.

iPad as an Interactive White Board for $5 or $10 « Moving at the Speed of Cre... - 1 views

  •
School leaders around the United States continue to spend HUGE amounts of money on interactive whiteboards for classrooms, despite the fact that these devices universally FAIL to empower students to become more independent, self-directed and engaged learners in the way mobile learning devices (like laptops, tablets or other personal digital learning tools) can. Please do not misunderstand me: It definitely IS a big deal for a teacher and his/her students to have access to an LCD projector connected to a computer in the classroom if previously, the "normal" technology in the room was an overhead projector.

Are Educators Ready for Cloud Computing in Schools? By Patrick Ledesma on May 16, 2011 3:34 PM | No Comments | No Recommendations In 2001, Mark Prensky coined the terms "Digital Natives" and "Digital Immigrants" to describe the differences between adults and students in using technology. Educators are the "Digital Immigrants" who have to adapt and learn how to integrate technology into their lives. Students are "Digital Natives" born into a culture and lifestyle where technology immersion is the norm.

What Happens When Eighth Graders Become the Teachers? - 1 views

  •
Significant research has been done on the cognitive and academic outcomes of older-younger and peer-peer student relationships. Whether in a one-on-one setting or a setting in which responsibility for teaching is shared among members of a collaborative group, well-planned, well-organized, and well-executed student-student interactions have repeatedly shown positive evidence of student progress and learning This action research project differentiates itself from previous research in several ways because it focuses on motivational and attitudinal outcomes when every student in a classroom of eighth graders serves as a teacher of "new-to-everyone" content for three classes of younger students.
