Between November 2nd and 4th, 2010, and thanks to the support of the Division for Lifelong Learning, I attended OpenEd 2010 in Barcelona, the first time the annual conference has taken place outside of North America.

Rather than cover all the sessions I attended I’ll focus instead on eight messages and lessons that I took away from the conference. Here they are (in no particular order):

Wenn es um das Internet geht, leben Lehrer und Schüler häufig in verschiedenen Welten. Eine Studie der nordrhein-westfälischen Landesanstalt für Medien (LfM) über "Medienkompetenz in der Schule" hat gezeigt: Während Online-Netzwerke bei Schülern ungemein populär sind, sehen Lehrer die Nutzung von Facebook und Co. eher kritisch. "Dabei sollten Lehrer diese Angebote wahrnehmen und nicht verteufeln. Schließlich ist das Teil der Lebenswelt ihrer Schüler", so der Leiter der Studie, Professor Andreas Breiter, der dpa.

Im Sommer 2009 wurde die Neutron Games GmbH mit dem Serious Games Award Berlin für ihr Konzept "Handball Trainer 3D" ausgezeichnet. Nach einem Jahr Produktionszeit ist aus diesem Konzept bereits ein Produkt entstanden ― die Minigame-Serie "Handball-Challenge Trainingscamp". Ein erster Schritt auf dem komplexen Weg zu einem Lernspiel für den Handballsport. In der Präsentation wird Björn Kaminski anhand von „Handball Challenge Trainingscamp“ die schwierige Gradwanderung zwischen Computerspiel und Lernsoftware skizzieren und dabei eine praxisnahe Definition des Begriffes „Serious Games“ wagen.

In seinem Vortrag „Mittel, Vermittlung, Medium. Bemerkungen zu einer wesentlichen Differenz“ (siehe voriges Blogpost) benennt Georg Rückriem  den Unterschied zwischen Mittel und Medium so:

The 2010 Global Education Conference is being held November 15 - 19, 2010, online and free.  Sessions will take place in multiple time zones and multiple languages over the five days.   For those "tweeting," the hashtag is #globaled10.The conference is a collaborative and world-wide community effort to significantly increase opportunities for globally-connecting education activities.   Our goal is to help you make connections with other educators and students, and for this reason the conference is very inclusive and also is provides broad opportunities for participating and presenting.   While we have an amazing list of expert presenters and keynote speakers, we will also have some number of presenters who either have not presented before or have not presented in Elluminate--please encourage and support them, as  they are likely to be a little nervous! There is no formal registration required for the conference, as all the sessions will be open and public, broadcast live using the Elluminate platform, and available in recorded formats afterwards.  There is a limit of 500 live attendees for any given session.   Links to watch the sessions will be posted the weekend before the conference begins, in the "Sessions" and "Schedule" pages, and recording links will be listed in the session descriptions soon after each day's sessions.  To verify that your computer system is configured correctly to access Elluminate, please run the self-test here.
