Some schools hold advisories first thing in the morning. Other schools might schedule a 20-minute advisory time between the second and third periods of the day. In one school, where the lunch hour comprises three 20-minute lunch periods (one lunch period for each grade 6 through 8), advisories meet for the 40 minutes of the hour when students aren't eating

This site has quick videos (around three minutes or less) that explain things in very simple terms. They use paper cut outs as they explain about technology, money, etc. I know that Barb has used these in our class. I didn't realize there were so many. When I looked at some of them, I thought about the 21st Century learner and how teachers might use these videos with students to help them learn about finances. They can be used personally for free or professionally for a fee. Teachers would have to be careful not to infringe on copyright issues, but this would be a nice way to introduce many concepts to students.

I love the Common Craft products, too! Every time I watch one of the videos, I'm amazed at the clarity of the explanation! They are able to take very complex tools, and make them seem simple. I think one of the best things about this is that they provide a "conceptual" look at the tool, rather than simply a "how to use it" video. For me, I often find myself experimenting with how to use a tool, before I really even understand conceptually what the tool is and what it can do! (A clear example of the many times when I don't know what I don't know!) This Common Craft site is one that I will bookmark, and return to often.

PowerPoint I think students should know how to create a PowerPoint presentation by the time they leave middle school.

Online version of the magazine. I

I like to use photos with various guidance and counseling lessons. This site has some great animal pictures. I had a subscription for the magazine at one time and like it. The benefit for me now is the photos are easily accessible and I can choose which ones would work best at a particular time.

It would be wrong of me if I did not include a history website.  This site provides up to 200 videos about the American Experience.  You can view the videos by time periods and there are lesson plans that can accompany the videos.  This is a great way to supplement learning and make it come to life.

This website provides tutorials for students, parents, and teachers to teach math skills. They could be very beneficial for teachers as an enrichment opportunity for students who lack basic skills. They could also assist parents with homework completion and retaining math skills over the summer time.

This is a list of printable graphic organizers categorized by grade level and subject. They could be utilized in just about any classroom and can save teachers preparation time.

This website has research-based practices and translates it into practical tools to improve classroom instruction. You can learn what works, understand the research, see what works, see it actually in action many times in the classroom through video, and do what works, download tools that can support the work. This is an awesome sight for educators! This site has many things that teachers could use to learn about and hone in on their instructional practices. It is a great springboard for learning and then using some web 2.0 tools to provide opportunities to collaborate with teachers either within their districts or in other districts would be a powerful learning tool.

Tons of links to technology resources.

WOW, there are so many links on this page. This resource would be helpful for anyone who is interested in using technology in their classroom. I was most interested in the fact that some of the sites were already ear-marked for use with smart boards. Some of the sites were practice sites for kids to use at home. I will be adding those to my parent wiki once school starts.

I am also very happy to see all the activities involving smart boards. Our district is purchasing them for many of our classrooms and I will share this resource with staff next month!

This tool can help you keep track of what you need to do with a free to-do list and task manager. When you have several projects you're working on at the same time, it allows you to have check-offs to keep track of your progress. It can also be used with students, assigning them specific tasks within group work. It combines Web, email, and other Web utilities and can be accessed from cell phones, too. Has a tutorial to help you learn it.

Voicethread is a versatile web 2.0 tool that I recommend to many teachers. It can incorporate images, text, and speech into one product and is a great alternative to traditional reports many times assigned to students.

Transforming media into collaborative spaces with video, voice, and text commenting.

EtherPad is a web-based word processor that is an alternative to GoogleDocs when you don't need the complexity of having accounts, permissions, etc. A free public etherpad is shared with others by sending out the URL. Any one can access, edit, etc. just from the URL. I have found this tool very useful in collaborative meetings/planning sessions as a way to quickly draft and edit work collaboratively.
