With the penny gone and the triumph of plastic over paper bills only months away, the research and development department of the Royal Canadian Mint has proposed going one step further: the death of hard currency altogether. Last week, the Mint announced the release of MintChip, a completely digital currency. The source code of the classic Apple II game Prince of Persia has been published on GitHub by Jordan Mechner, the original author. The game, which was first published by Broderbund in 1989, was developed in 6502 assembly. With the help of Apple II enthusiast Tony Diaz, the code was recovered recently from a 22-year old floppy disk.

Microsoft has finally released a new programming language in addition to their current suite of languages including C#, C++ and other .NET languages. The language is called Dflat.NET or simply Db.NET. It still uses the .NET Framework as its base. Also known as vNext.NET, this new language features many enhancements that developers and database designers have been looking for in other languages but were not available.

I checked out their website and I find it a bit of a joke. First off, their Introduction to CS includes topics like PL/SQL which is proprietary. Oracle states that their Introduction to CS workshop is free and then when you go to enrol it is only available in China, India, and Brazil. I was expecting them to offer something like the FREE course that Stanford offered this spring by Nick Parlante.
