    The problem is that to have a Google Docs account, you need an email address.  You need it to verify your Google Docs account.  Most elementary and some middle school students don't have email addresses and their parents may not want them to have one.  Mailcatch.com is a disposable email address service.  You create an email address by just using it.  Then you go to mailcatch.com and retrieve any emails sent to it.  In a few hours, the email disappears.  You can't send email from it and you can return to it to get recovery password emails.

    Tracks - I've tried a number of task tracking software, I've even tried creating my own task tracking software in OneNote and Evernote.  Unfortunately every system/app I tried fell over and I stopped using it. That is when I found Tracks.  Tracks is an open source software (free) that is built to work with the GTD system for organization.  Whether you are a follower of GTD or not, the software is simple, well written, and has the core things that you need to stay on top of your tasks.  Other software tends to have so many features that the core purpose of the software gets lost.  For go the features and use this software, it works.  I signed up for a free account at My.GTDify.com.  I also downloaded the Android app called Shuffle and have it syncing with my online account.  You can even have it sync with your Google calendar.

    This fall, I am requiring the students in my seminar to have a Twitter account. Students will post items on a regular basis, using the hashtag #BIO361. We also will devote some time on a regular basis to discussing items or responses from Twitter. Our first post probably will be on the first day of classes - Tuesday, August 24, 2010. For this project to work most effectively, we need a critical mass of people outside of our class to participate. If you, your students, friends, or colleagues would like to join us, please do.
