Teaching Yoga: Physical Advantages - 0 views

  •
By Sanjeev Patel It is often sad that the ancient Yogis would be saddened by the fitness-based styles we see today. It is also contended that Indians do not practice physical forms of Yoga. My answer (question) to that is: Have you ever been to India? I can appreciate the attention Yogic philosophy and methodology are getting, but there are many different forms of Yoga that are practiced in India. I contend that the ancient Yogis would be pleased about the number of practitioners who gain physical benefits today. If you desire to become a Yoga instructor, you should feel free to embrace the physical benefits and explain them to your students.

Creating Healthy Habits with Yoga: Regularity - 0 views

  •
By: Virginia Iversen, M.Ed Creating healthy habits can be difficult for many of us. Establishing a regular time to practice Yoga is one of the primary keys to benefiting fully from this ancient system of physical postures, pranayama exercises and meditation techniques. For instance, engaging in a thirty-minute practice several times a week, or even daily, will benefit you much more fully than a longer Yoga practice of two hours or more, once in a blue moon. When I was first starting to practice Yoga on a consistent basis, I didn't believe that this was true! I would wonder to myself why a practice that is 2 to 3 hours in length, once a week, would not benefit me more fully than a 30-minute practice on a daily basis?

What is the Significance of Yoga Props? - Yoga Practice Blog - 0 views

  •
By Faye Martins Considering the many physical styles of Yoga, not to mention the diverse philosophies considering its practice, it is little wonder that there is controversy over the use of props. According to some purists, ancient Yogis never used props, and neither should modern ones. While opinions vary, mats are props and most Yoga instructors agree that props can be helpful. After all, most western contemporary Yoga enthusiasts do not spend long hours practicing in ashrams, these days. How many modern Yoga students would like to go back to the past and practice Yoga in dirt, mud or on grass?

By Jenny Park Ironically, quantum physicists are now telling us the same thing that sages have said for thousands of years. We are living in a sea of energy that connects us to everything else in the universe. We already have everything we need: t.v., internet, phone, and countless other modern luxuries, as well as basic living necessities, food, running water, electricity, a roof above our heads etc. We work out at the gym and we're in tip top shape already, aren't we? We don't need yoga, now do we? Well, I would like to contradict this.
