Four types of awareness needs of virtual teams are defined and the awareness support features of TeamSCOPE are described. The usage patterns of eight globally distributed engineering design teams are outlined, and evaluation results are provided. Findings illustrate how group process interacts with technology to create design challenges in the support of virtual team awareness needs. f1 jangchyn@msu.edu f2 steinfie@msu.edu f3 pfaffben@msu.edu Copyright © 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. Raval, Shamsuddin Ahmed, Zahari Taha 0 Reviews GRIN Verlag GmbH, Oct 11, 2011 - 4 pages Increasingly competitive global markets and accelerating technological changes have increased the need for people to contact via electronic medium to have daily updates, the people those who could not able to meet face to face every day. Those who contact via electronic medium i.e. Virtual Team, are having number of benefit but to achieve these potential benefits, however, leaders need to overcome liabilities inherent in the lack of direct contact among team members and managers. Team members may not naturally know how to interact effectively across space and time. By this paper author try to throw some lights on the challenges that virtual team faces and try to elaborate what is needed for Virtual Team. More »"

From the paper, it appears that these projects were mostly internal efforts with little external contributions. Some suggested areas for further analysis and investigation : - what are the preferred model? eg, completely virtual / hybrid, eg, cross job-posting - are research institutes / universities involved as virtual partners? what is the model for tech transfer? - do the projects involved mostly internal cross-divisional teams or are external partners involved? - how is project management implemented? PMO? - are the new products mostly incremental innovations? - are new product development initiated in response to perceived local market needs or by a global partner to address regional/global markets? - are there any examples of radical innovations, ie, new to the world market? - do MNC collaborate with SME virtually and which parties are the drivers/initiators ? - is IP sharing a key consideration before embarking on collaboration between SMEs and what is the preferred mode? 5 days ago * Like Ignasi Papell Garcia IgnasiUnfollow Ignasi Papell Garcia * I fully agree with Mr. Wu's comments amd suggestions for further research. The effect of self-leadership on work role performance in teams - 0 views

"The effect of self-leadership on work role performance in teams Kristina Hauschildt⇓ HIS Hochschul-Informations-System, Germany Kristina Hauschildt, HIS Hochschul-Informations-System GmbH, Goseriede 9, 30159 Hannover, Germany Email: hauschildt@his.de Udo Konradt University of Kiel, Germany Abstract This research examined the effect of self-leadership strategies on individuals' work role performance in teams. Using an experimental policy-capturing design, self-leadership, task interdependence and situational uncertainty were manipulated in two studies. Moreover, the moderating effect of psychological collectivism orientation on the self-leadership performance relation was explored. Results from multilevel analyses revealed that in Study 1, self-leadership had a positive effect on individual task and team member work role performance. Study 2 replicated and extended these results by showing positive effects of self-leadership on individuals' team member proficiency, adaptivity and proactivity in teams. Furthermore, collectivism orientation moderates the effect of self-leadership on team member proficiency. Implications of the findings are identified, limitations are discussed and areas for future research are proposed. "

"Virtual Collaborative R&D Teams in Malaysia Manufacturing SMEs 1 year ago 1 Comments 120 Views Project, Program & Portfolio Management This paper presents the results of empirical research conducted during March to September 2009. The study focused on the influence of virtual research and development (R&D) teams within Malaysian manufacturing small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). The specific objective of the study is better understanding of the application of collaborative technologies in business, to find the effective factors to assist SMEs to remain competitive in the future. The paper stresses to find an answer for a question "Is there any relationship between company size, Internet connection facility and virtuality?". The survey data shows SMEs are now technologically capable of performing the virtual collaborative team, but the infrastructure usage is less. SMEs now have the necessary technology to begin the implementation process of collaboration tools to reduce research and development (R&D) time, costs and increase productivity. So, the manager of R&D should take the potentials of virtual teams into account."

"Home > Vol 16, No 2 (2012) > Olson Towards A Theoretical Model Of The Impacts Of Incorporating Webcams In Virtual Teams Joel Olson, Lynn Grinnell, Chad McAllister, Frank Appunn, Kimberly Walters Abstract Virtual teams have proliferated over the last ten years as businesses realized benefits in coordinating across geographic and departmental boundaries. Studies of virtual teams, however, have revealed uneven success in team effectiveness. With the increase in quality and availability of video over the Internet, there are opportunities to improve effectiveness of virtual teams by integrating videoconferencing into synchronous meetings. The purpose of this qualitative study is to evaluate the impact of video on team interactions and effectiveness. Results showed a relationship between the added richness and authenticity brought about by video and increased effectiveness, while also showing a relationship between the increased stress of learning new technology and decreased effectiveness."
