The purpose of the state-of-the-art literature review is to provide an overview of what is known about the structure and dynamics of virtual collaboration in SMEs which they are the back bone of the world business. This study seeks to address some of the advantages of virtual R&D team in the existing extensive literature on the increase SMEs interrelations. Besides of identify benefits of virtual R&D team in SMEs, propose the way of further studies and recommend improvements. We argue that the routines used to promote interrelation between SMEs, based on virtual collaboration can sometimes create problems for firms as they ignore new challenges. We elaborate various theories on the virtual R&D team by reviewing the precedent papers. Published in 2009. • Home » Stages of candidature » Communicating research » Publishing on internet Publishing on internet Research overview & references Jim Cumming, a recent ANU doctoral candidate, suggests that with the development of the internet has come a range of communication methods for researchers. These include: Blogs Research websites where papers are posted prior to formal publication Online journals Wikis Skype An interesting development at the doctoral level in recent years has been a steady growth in the practice of blogging, whereby the experiences of candidates are not only documented but also publicly accessible. To see a range of blogs compiled by PhD candidates, supervisors and anything PhD related, visit PhDs.org. As part of my own doctoral research I have observed a 100 per cent increase in the number of blogs registered on the phdweblogs site during my candidature (2004-07). My notes reveal the number of blogs registered have been as follows: 285-15 May 2005; 453-17 September 2006; and 500-25 July 2007. An interesting feature of this site is that the number of doctoral blogs in Australia ranks third in the world with 34 PhD blogs, after the USA (194) and the UK (69). Another is the multidisciplinary nature of these blogs. On registering individuals are required to self-select their research area against a broad classification. Unsurprisingly, 'Social Sciences-General' is the top category with 128 posts, however, 'Multidisciplinary' is second with 100. This is inherently interesting given that most other disciplinary classification schemes fail to include inter-, trans-, or multi-disciplinary categories (e.g. RFCD, DEST, ANZIC, SEO, ISI). Intrigued by this online mode of communication and interaction I initiated my own blog-http://doctoralpractices.blogspot.com/ on 5 May 2005. The National Library approached me not long after it was up and running with a view to registering as part of their online database. I maintained the blog until the final stages of my candidature in 2007. During that time I recorded over 30 posts and generated over 3,000 hits. While it did not generate the level of interaction that I envisaged originally, it could be seen as constituting a public record of one candidate's activities. As such it provides an additional point of reference in the field of doctoral education, as well as a potential data source for those researching in the field of doctoral education in years to come. Relationship between R&D Globalization and R&D Virtualization - 0 views

  • Relationship between R&D Globalization and R&D Virtualization   BibTex | RIS | RefWorks Download Nader Ale Ebrahim, Shamsuddin Ahmed, Zahari Taha The globalization of Research and Development (R&D) is not a recent phenomenon. Since the1960s, for various reasons, companies have been performing some kind of R&D activities outside their home countries. The pressure of globalization competition force producers to continuously innovate and upgrade the quality of existing products. The mega trends like globalization and high demand fluctuation force companies and supply chains to innovate new business models to gain and maintain competitive position. Networking, outsourcing, and information and communication technology are considered as general tools and means to respond to these challenges. The development of powerful ICTs has facilitated globalization. The globalization and the new waves of global trends in economy, services and business along with advances in telecommunications technology have paved the way for the formation and the performance of virtual teams. Virtualization in R&D has recently started to make serious headway due to developments in technology. In this paper the relationship between R&D virtualization and R&D globalization will be discussed. Although most R&D activity has for a long time been concentrated in a few advanced economies, this is now beginning to change and R&D activity is becoming more geographically dispersed and technologically specialized. Finding shows that decision to use a virtual R&D team is often a necessity and not a choice. Published in 2008.

Virtual Teaming - Whiteleaf Editing - 0 views

"Virtual Teaming As a 21st century freelance editor I have extensive experience with effective virtual teaming, otherwise known as working remotely, connecting and communicating with clients through information communication technology such as email, telephone and video conferencing (Skype). While many individual clients are quite comfortable with virtual team work with their editor, many academic organisations, businesses, and institutions are now learning of the benefits of virtual teaming and are increasingly turning to virtual team work as a cost effective way to hire the best people - specialists who can get an assignment done quickly and well. In today's increasingly globalised world, with it's increasingly casualized workforce, virtual team work is an essential business practice for any organization that has, or wishes to have, a truly global vision and reach. In the past I have worked virtually as a copy-editor and transcriber with the Max Planck Institute as well as a proofreader with Napier University. And I currently work as manager of virtual teams with the Visual Anthropology Review (Book Reviews Editor) and Versita (Managing/Aquisitions Editor). As a manager of virtual teams I use Internet communication and the quick and accurate sharing of documents through email, Dropbox and other cloud-based systems, and team-collaboration tools such as Microsoft SharePoint to communicate with other team members and share work. By organising the work of various virtual teams across the globe I am able to use differences in time-zone and regional specialisation to best advantage. My experience with virtual teaming also means that I am familiar with employment laws and the organization of contracts in a variety of countries across Europe and North America. These are skills that, as your freelance editor, I will bring to every project that I complete for you. You can be assured that our communications will be clear, concise, and effective; that work w"

SMEs are a part of manufacturing industries, but they have some limitation for attending and also for remaining in the market, especially in the global market (Mohammadjafari et al., 2010a). SMEs cannot compete with big companies, unless, they attend to customer needs.

"Title: Trustworthy in the eye of the beholder? A cognitive perspective on personal profile information in virtual project teams Authors: Rusman, Ellen Van Bruggen, Jan Sloep, Peter Koper, Rob Valcke, Martin Keywords: trust profile identity virtual team Issue Date: 11-Oct-2011 Abstract: Collaboration in virtual project teams heavily relies on interpersonal trust, for which perceived trustworthiness is an important determinant. This study provides insight in the foundation of trustors' information preferences to assess a trustee's professional trustworthiness in the initial phase of a virtual project team. We hypothesize that trustors in virtual teams prefer particular information elements since they provide them with relevant cues for trust warranting properties of a trustee. Starting from a list of commonly preferred information elements to inform trustworthiness assessments (n=226), we analyze explanations for these preferences with the help of a theory-grounded coding scheme. Results show that indeed respondents prefer information elements as they provide them with multiple cues to assess the trustworthiness of a trustee. Information elements providing unique cues could not be identified. Results of this study can inform the design of artifacts to get acquainted in the initial phase of a virtual project team. 5 tips to establishing a successful virtual team - Virtual Teams Blog - 0 views

  •
"By Dr. Al Jury · January 22, 2012 · No comments leadership, virtual teams · Tagged: collaboration tools, virtual teams success virtual teams Establishing a virtual team is a key part of a team's long term effectiveness. Setting up virtual teams can be a challenging process, especially for team members who have never participated in a virtual team before. Focusing on a number of core elements as discussed below, should help a virtual team leader to more quickly get a virtual team up and running. 1. Choose an experienced leader The leader of a virtual team has a large impact on the set up and success of a virtual team. Virtual teams tend to rely more heavily on a virtual team leader as they have less direct interaction between team members. Often communication flow in a virtual team is between members and the leader, rather than between members themselves (which is more typical of co-located teams). As such, a virtual team leader needs to be someone who is comfortable managing people remotely, who can use the technology to effectively provide task instructions and build relationships in the absence of face to face interaction. As there is much to learn for first time virtual team leaders, we suggest that a leader has at least had previous leadership experience so that they can then concentrate on the differences a virtual team has. Read more about effective virtual team leaders. 2. Select members who are suited to working in virtual teams Where virtual teams tend to fail, it is often a result of the lack of familiarity, physical distance and incompatible time zones of team members. One of the easiest ways to ensure the success of a virtual team is pick a few team members who already know each other. This way, trust (one of the more difficult aspects to develop virtually) may be established much faster. If it is not possible to find members who have worked together previously, try and arrange a face-to-face meeting at the start (as mentioned below) to devel
