"The largest European Commission research project is being developed to enhance the European aquaculture production by removing production bottlenecks of emerging species, producing new products and accessing new markets. It is Diversify project, which is funded under the 7th Framework Programme of the European Commission and had its kickoff meeting at the Hellenic Center for Marine Research in Greece in January 2014. Coordinated by Dr. Constantinos C Mylonas of the Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture, a total of 38 partners from Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Israel, Belgium, The Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, the United Kingdom, Germany and Hungary have participated in this 5-year-long research. The Netherlands is represented by Wageningen University's DLO, The National Institute for Fisheries Studies and the Technical University of Eindhoven."

The series of the videos present: The Songhai Centre in Benin is a sustainable micro-enterprise that trains young Africans. The Africa Biosciences Challenge Fund (ABCF) seeks applicants with innovative ideas for research projects (up to 12 months) aligned with national, regional or continental agricultural development priorities. ABCF is fellowship program that develops capacity for agricultural biosciences research in Africa and supports research projects that ultimately contribute towards increasing food and nutritional security and / or food safety in Africa. Applicants must be scientists or graduate students affiliated with a NARI or African University, and conducting research in the areas of food and nutritional security or food safety in Africa. Closing date for applications: March 31st 2015.

"The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Connecting the Mekong through Education and Training is a five-year project that enables teachers to better prepare youth for employment in the Lower Mekong countries of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam though the use of innovative training approaches. USAID works to bridge the gap between the private sector, universities and vocational centers to build up the supply of skilled workers to meet the demands of local businesses. The project will partner with local education providers to utilize mobile technology, online learning and traditional in-person workshops to promote learning and regional networking in targeted Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) countries in ways that help residents from rural and marginalized areas access educational services."

"A high-level conference on "Promoting Africa-EU Research Infrastructure Partnerships" will take place on 7-8 March 2013 in Brussels, Belgium. The conference will present the outcomes of the PAERIP (Promoting African European Research Infrastructures Partnerships) project, funded under the EU's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7)."

The Universidad ISA of Santiago, the University of Stirling in the UK and the University of Guyana have held the constituent assembly of the Institute of Aquaculture and Aquaponics-INAQUAP- in Georgetown, Guyana, on October 28, 2015. The Institute of Aquaculture and Aquaponics (INAQUAP) is being established as a key outcome of the project funded by the ACP-EU EDULINK II called "PESCADO - Pioneering Education for Sustainability of Caribbean Aquaculture Development & Opportunities" - its acronym in English.

The United States Agency for International Development's Maximizing Agricultural Revenue through Knowledge, Enterprise Development and Trade Project promotes more sustainable and efficient use of aquaculture and fishery resources in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region with an emphasis on the Lower Mekong Initiative countries.

The Agriculture and Agro-Industry Department of the African Development Bank Group (OSAN) is responsible for Bank's assistance in Agriculture and natural resources management in the Regional Member Countries. This assistance includes environmental concerns, promoting agro-industries development, enhancing production, productivity and competitiveness. The Department provides technical and managerial services as well as technical quality assurance to ensure development effectiveness of Bank financed interventions in Agriculture and related areas on the continent . In 2010, the African Development Bank Group started implementing its current Agriculture Sector Strategy (AgSS) covering the period 2010 - 2014. The strategy aims primarily at contributing to the broader development objectives of greater and sustained agricultural productivity, food security and poverty reduction. The strategy was designed with the view of enhancing Bank interventions through more focused, selective and innovative activities. These activities covered areas such as: i) rural infrastructure, including water management and storage, and trade - related capacities for access to local and regional markets; and ii) natural resource management. The strategy also supported selected research initiatives and a wide range of capacity building programs, with distinct features of gender sensitivity, with particular emphasis on fully mainstreaming gender appropriat ely on more than 50% of projects, and ensuring that a similar scope of beneficiaries are women. The Bank recently concluded a Mid-term Review of the AgSS (2010-2014), and will soon commence work on the new Agriculture Strategy to cover the period 2015-2019,and it will be formulated in line with the Bank's Ten Year Strategy ( TYS:2013-2022).OSAN therefore seeks to recruit a junior consultant to assist in : data collection,analysis, research,results reporting and support for the preparation of an approach for the new Strategy.

"The 1st Regional Conference 'Sustainable Fisheries in the South-Western Indian Ocean: the importance of the Education, Management and Governance' took place in Mahajanga (Madascar) on the 10th and 11th of September and it helped to be a meeting point for academics, researchers, managers and civil society in general. During two days the discussions were focused on the importance of the fisheries resources as a source of food and wealth for the region; the different problems that challenges its sustainability like overfishing, destructive fishing practices and habitat destruction; and the need for a good management system that ensures sustainability."

The AgIM (Agriculture Information Management and Precision Farming) has released its fourth newsletter covering the second semester of 2015. AgIM project is co-ordinated by NOVA Information Management School and is designed to reinforce and elevate the EU-ACP partnership in the filed of higher education through the creation of an inter-institutional network, rooted in a long-term sustainable strategy, to promote the academic excellence in agriculture education in Mozambique and Cape Verde.

The EGALE project will support partner HEIs in the development of an international consortium and new third level curricula (PhD) complying with international standards and capitalising on local expertise, including the spread of innovative and powerful teaching technologies such as distance learning. Relevant staff of the participating HEIs will be targeted to increase their qualifications.

Brief description of the Assignment: The objective of this assignment is to support the operationalization of the Jobs for Youth in Africa Strategy, elaborated as a response to Africa's youth unemployment and underemployment crisis. Specific objectives include the development of a strong pipeline of projects under the umbrella of the Bank's Job creation initiative for at least 15 Bank's Regional Member Countries. The scoping exercises aims to learn lessons on best and scalable practices at country level. The junior consultant will also support other activities which has a focus on job creation. The junior consultant will work closely with the Department for Human and Social Development and will further help coordinate at Bank wide level and across the Bank's task force on 'Jobs for Youth'

"In the presence of the Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to the African Union (AU), Amb.Gary Quince, and the AU Commissioner Jean-Pierre Ezin, the second set of research grants resulting from the AU's 2nd call for proposals was officially signed at the AU Commission Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 17th December 2012. This call led to the selection of eleven projects in the areas of Agriculture, Renewable and Sustainable Energy, and Water and Sanitation, for a total amount of €7 million."

"The role of young people in the agricultural sector have been debated extensively, and for good reason. Youth unemployment is a huge challenge with potentially severe consequences, and the agricultural sector is the biggest employer in most developing countries. Currently, the global population of young people aged 12-24 is around 1.3 billion, and projected to peak at 1.5 billion in 2035. The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) estimates that globally, around 55% of young people reside in rural areas. In Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and south Asia, this number increase to as much as 70%. In SSA alone, youth (aged between 15 and 24) comprise as much as 36% of the labor force. With food production having to increase with 60% by 2050 in order to sustain expected food demands (FAO, 2011), adequate integration of young people in the agricultural sector can be a vital factor of reaching those targets.."

On May 28, 2013 a ''Memorandum of Agreement'' has been signed between UNESCO-UNEVOC and the BIBB. Present were, amongst others, Dr. Shyamal Majumdar, Director of the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre in Bonn, Mr Borhene Chakroun, Director of TVET in UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, and Dr Eckart Lilienthal, Desk Officer BMBF and Professor Dr Reinhold Weiss, Vice President, BIBB. To honour this event, a reception was held at the UN premises in Bonn. The purpose of the Memorandum of Agreement is the prospect of a synergetic collaboration in projects pertaining to the fields of "Greening TVET" and knowledge management, which is supported by sending two experts from the BIBB to work at UNESCO-UNEVOC. The event was inspired by the rising interest worldwide in Technical and Vocational Education and Training cooperation with Germany. The need for closer cooperation, usage and strengthening of the UNEVOC network, consisting of 280 training institutions worldwide, has been emphasized as a primary aim. Mr Lilienthal stressed the great need for support of UNESCO-UNEVOC's effort to promote the areas of Youth & Skills and Greening TVET in the area of Technical and Vocational Education and Training in and outside of Germany. The two experts, who will support those areas, Dr Uta Roth and Ms Dagmar Winzier, are intended to be deployed to UNESCO-UNEVOC for one year initially.
