"The African Union Commission (AUC) and the NEPAD Agency will hold the 9th Comprehensive African Agriculture Development (CAADP) Partnership Platform (PP) from March 25 to 26, to evaluate progress and achievements made in implementing CAADP. CAADP is the Continent's main development programme to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty through agriculture. It has a clear objective to raise agricultural productivity in Africa to at least 6 per cent annually and requires African countries to commit at least ten per cent of their national budgets to agricultural development. The PP is an annual high-level partnership platform, bringing together key stakeholders such as African governments, policy makers, civil society organisations and farmers' organisations to assess progress made in implementing the CAADP goals."

" Organised by the African Union Commission and the NEPAD Agency,the 11th Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme Partnership Platform (CAADP PP) will take place in Cape Town, South Africa. The CAADP PP will be opened by the AUC Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture, H.E Rhoda Peace Tumusiime and the NEPAD Agency's Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ibrahim Assane Mayaki. Also in attendance will be High level African Leadership, Regional Economic Communities, government ministries, farmers' organisations, the private sector, civil society and development partners. This year's CAADP PP meeting will focus on African socio-economic development strategies to stimulate agriculture-led growth and country commitment to put agriculture at the top of national development agendas."

On December 14, the Brookings Institution and TransFarm Africa organized a workshop titled "CAADP at 10 : Progress Towards Agricultural Prosperity" in Washington D.C. The event gathered about 30 participants from donors, development partners, universities, think tanks and private sectors, aiming to provide a policy dialogue about the progress of CAADP in the past decade, current challenges, and recommendations as the program approaches its 2015 deadline for achieving its commitments

Our CAADP policy briefs respond to the developing issues addressed by the Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Programme, exploring the implications of new research for policy-making and practice. So far 10 briefs have been published, and many translated into French : they can be downloaded for free below. Future Agricultures continues to engage with CAADP through meetings and publications.

The Network, which was launched today on the eve of the 9th Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development (CAADP) Partnership Platform (PP) in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, aims to equip African journalists with a better understanding of CAADP, and the broader issues and debates related to agricultural development on the Continent."

"Speaking at the signing ceremony on the 14th November, 2014 at Grand Hotel, Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), COMESA Secretary General Sindiso Ngwenya said the Regional CAADP Compact spells out priority areas for trans-boundary investments in the agriculture sector in COMESA. The first is increased agriculture production and productivity focusing on staple foods, livestock, fisheries and forest produce. The second is removing barriers to agriculture trade while the third is reducing social and economic vulnerability."

This is according to the Chief Executive Officer fo the New Partnership for Afriva's Development (NEPAD) Agency, Dr Ibrahim Mayaki.

NEPAD and FAO launch rural youth project at the 11th CAADP Partnership Platform 25 March 2015, Johannesburg - The New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), today launched a 4-year project that aims to create decent employment opportunities for young women and men in rural areas, through the development of rural enterprises in sustainable agriculture and agribusiness along strategic value chains. The USD$ 4 million project is funded by the African Solidarity Trust Fund.

" Youths, farmers and other actors along agricultural value chains require training to achieve the scale and scope of agricultural development that will transform the continent and make it food secure as well as reduce poverty. However, the provision of agricultural skills development and vocational training in Africa has been largely inadequate across the value chain resulting in losses - both in productivity and potential income. To address this, the NEPAD Agency's Agriculture Technical Vocational Education and Training (ATVET) Programme was developed in order to promote technical vocational education and training in the agricultural sector. The ultimate goal is to strengthen TVET in Africa's agriculture education system in order to deliver the desired numbers and competency levels of a skilled work force. This will ensure optimal productivity levels across the agriculture value chains and open up more opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship."

Food security remains one of the key challenges that African countries confront today. This problem is most visibly evidenced by frequent food shortages and famines, such as the crisis in the Horn of Africa that lasted from July 2011 to February 2012 and impacted some 13 million people. But it is also illustrated in less visible, but no less dramatic, ways : The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that 26 percent of Africa's population is undernourished

"Le dernier Briefing de Bruxelles sur le développement sur "les facteurs de succès pour la transformation agricole en Afrique", s'est tenu le 2 octobre, au Centre de Conférence Borschette à Bruxelles. Plus de 120 participants ont discuté des succès remportés et partagé des enseignements dans le domaine de la transformation agricole en Afrique, en mettant l'accent sur l' impact que l'agriculture a sur la vie des gens et sur la croissance économique du continent. L'événement s'est déroulé en deux parties. La première a proposé un aperçu du potentiel agricole en Afrique en tant que moteur de croissance et de développement durable. Il révèlera les tendances positives et les moteurs requis pour une croissance et une inclusion durables. La seconde a présenté les actions éprouvées dans l'agriculture africaine et les meilleures pratiques PPP basées sur les réussites du CAADP au cours des 10 dernières années. Il soulignera les réussites susceptibles d'être améliorées et/ou reproduites."

""L'agriculture peut soulever plus de personnes de la pauvreté que tout autre secteur en Afrique," a déclaré le Dr Marcel Nwalozie, chef du bureau de l'Agence du NEPAD au Sénégal. Dr Nwalozie été adressait aux participants du séminaire Programme de développement de l'agriculture africaine (PDDAA) Informations sur le support pour les ministères de l'Agriculture à Dakar, au Sénégal, le 20 Juillet."

"MASERU- Nthabiseng Hlalele , a young and vibrant lady, living in the small village of Masite on the outskirts of Maseru says women should bring food security to the fore because they are the ones taking care of their families. Hlalele said she ventured into farming in 2010 by helping her mother in her farming projects. She said she is following her mother's footsteps in interacting with nature in order to put bread on the table, saying her mother had influenced her discernibly on food security initiatives. "My mother was nominated as the Woman of the Year in Agriculture- 2014," explained Hlalele."

"La Commission de l'Union africaine et l'Agence du NEPAD ont lancé la Stratégie de mise en œuvre de l'UA et de feuille de route pour atteindre la Déclaration Malabo 2014, pour la croissance agricole et de prospérité partagée. La Stratégie a été lancée hier soir à un dîner de haut niveau."

"Une décennie après l'approbation de la Plateforme du Partenariat du Programme détaillé de développement agricole (PDDAA), par les Chefs d'Etats et de gouvernements de l'Union Africaine à Maputo au Mozambique, l'on constate que le chemin reste long à parcourir pour atteindre l'objectif global de cet instrument qui est d'éradiquer la faim en Afrique et d'y réduire la pauvreté grâce à l'agriculture."

Specifically, the Conference will provide a platform for exchange and peer learning on experiences and insights in catalyzing and fostering job creation and skills development in rural based agri- and non-agri-systems as key components to advance rural development.
