The process of visually capturing ideas with the iPad isn't terribly complex in concept. If you can think of concept-mapping, you've halfway there."

Fraser Speirs - Blog - Digital Exams on the iPad - 4 views

  •
"t's prelim week at Cedars. In Scotland, pupils with additional needs can use a "Digital Question Paper" to complete their exam. A DQP is a PDF with embedded forms. The pupil sits at a computer and fills in the form to answer the questions. For exams involving graphs, equations or other hard-to-do-on-the-computer things, they can also switch to working on paper. At the end of the exam, the PDF is printed out and the exam goes away on paper with the rest to be marked. So this week it's been my job to get this going. I thought it would be useful to write down the process and considerations for doing this on our computer infrastructure. Can you do this on an iPad? Of course you can."

How sugar affects the brain - Nicole Avena | TED-Ed - 3 views

  •
"When you eat something loaded with sugar, your taste buds, your gut and your brain all take notice. This activation of your reward system is not unlike how bodies process addictive substances such as alcohol or nicotine -- an overload of sugar spikes dopamine levels and leaves you craving more. Nicole Avena explains why sweets and treats should be enjoyed in moderation."

"BYOD: A workplace phenomenon that makes processes easier, streamlines communication, and helps to connect employees around the globe. Free Technology for Teachers: A Short Guide to Creating and Grading Quizzes Through Goo... - 7 views

  •
"One of the things that I always do in my Google Apps workshops and webinars is teach people how to create self-grading quizzes through Google Forms and Spreadsheets. Depending upon the pace of the group we'll often look at creating image-based and multiple page quizzes too. I've recently put all of the screenshots of those processes into one PDF. You can view the PDF below. (If you are viewing this on an iPad, you might not be able to see the guide)."

8 Practical Tools to Easily Gather Student Feeback ~ Educational Technology and Mobile ... - 0 views

"Students feedback can sometimes host a treasure trove of new insights not only about their own comprehension but also about our teaching. Giving students the opportunity to share their own response on the learning taking place in the classroom is highly beneficial to them particularly in the way they position themselves vis a vis the content being taught. They also feel empowered because they know their voice does matter and therefore become more engaged and involved in the learning/teaching process."

How Can We Maximize the Potential of Learning Apps? | MindShift - 1 views

  •
"The following is an excerpt from the book The App Generation: How Today's Youth Navigate Identity, Intimacy, and Imagination in a Digital World by Howard Gardner and Katie Davis. Let's dive directly into the world of educational apps. Our survey suggests that the majority - one might even say, the vast majority - of educational apps encourage pursuit of the goals and means of traditional education by digital means. They constitute convenient, neat, sometimes even seductive pathways to accomplish what were already goals in an earlier era: mastering concepts, learning arithmetical operations, identifying geographical locations or historical figures or key biological or chemical or physical processes. We could dub them "digital textbooks" or "lectures" or "pre-programmed educational conversations." Decades ago, major behaviorist B. F. Skinner called for teaching machines that would automate the traditional classroom, allow students to proceed at their own rate, provide positive feedback on correct answers, and either repeat a missed item or present that item via another pathway. Those sympathetic to Skinner's brand of psychology and to its associated educational regimen would easily recognize many apps today and would likely nod in approval at their slick, seductive interfaces."

Hide Settings on the iPad to Lock Users Out | The iTeach Hub - 2 views

  •
"Each time a new iOS version is released, users prepare for problems associated with bugs, but also look for novel ways to exploit the new functionality to their advantage. At The iTeach Hub we have developed a practical means to effectively prevent users from manipulating Settings in iOS7. It is essentially a means to lock Settings and we want to share it with you. This relatively simple process is outlined below. Technically, it is not a Settings lock, but our trials with this approach involving students have proven to be very effective at keeping them out of Settings."
