Archival Collection: The March of Time® From 1935 to 1967, Time Inc's newsreel series, "The March of Time®" chronicled the events of our lives. The March of Time® separated itself from its competitors using its trademark "pictorial journalism," mixing highly-produced, long-form, documentary-style stories with dramatic re-enactments. These award-winning motion pictures recorded global events and brought them to big screens around the world and then later, television. The collection also contains historic footage dating back to 1913.

How to Figure Out If You're Dealing With a Nutcase : The World :: American Express OPEN... - 2 views

This is how it works: You enter the email address of a person. (Think about it: searching by email address is much more precise than by a person's name. How many "Robert Lees" do you think there are in the world?) Spokeo then searches the public records of fifty social sites such as LinkedIn, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Flickr, Amazon Gifts, and the blogosphere. Then Spokeo produces a report of matches that it's found.

The Inquiry Diary - the power of collaborative documentation | Justwondering - 4 views

  •
"What is an inquiry diary? Essentially, it is a large book (or digital equivalent - but more on that later) into which the inquiry is recorded as it unfolds - one of those big, spiral bound sketch books is ideal. Some teachers construct a diary for each inquiry while others use a single diary for the whole year. Some teachers reserve the diary for documentation of the unplanned, 'spontaneous' investigations that occur throughout the year (such as the sad death of the preying mantis at St. Fidelis Primary early this year!). Entries can be made at various times throughout the process - daily, weekly, sporadic or regular. The teacher often scribes students' suggestions or invites a small group to work on an entry. Importantly, the diary gives us an opportunity to reinforce the language of inquiry and the transferable skills and strategies that are being used within it. They can be as simple or as detailed as suits. "

Magnification for Making | iPad Art Room - 2 views

  •
"I've been looking at the art-making potential of the Exo Lab scope over the past couple of weeks. In exploring ideas for the creative classroom, it's obvious that there is real potential in this device to enhance opportunities to create rich learning experiences across teaching areas. So here's the scope (below). It's so easy to use - you simply connect it to your iPad and start exploring using an app that couples with the camera. You can take photographs, time-lapse, video recordings, make annotations and measurements… In this project I am using the pictured 'Discovery Stand', which allows you to get up-close, but there are attachments that go into a microscope too. We used those to investigate 'The World's Smallest Monster Drawing' a few weeks ago."

Excellent Tools, Apps, and Tips to Create Educational Book Trailers ~ Educational Techn... - 3 views

  •
"There are several ways to use technology to engage students and enhance their literacy skills and one of them is through creating video book trailers. Yes, they are similar to movie trailers we see now on YouTube but they are different in scope. A video book trailer is a concise review of a book created with the help of a variety of digital tools that include : images, text, clips, voiceovers, recordings, and music."

Writing up a science experiment with Book Creator - Book Creator app | Blog - 2 views

  •
"Originally, we used Book Creator in English lessons, where children enjoyed producing more creative and interactive pieces, using the various tools, such as images for scenes in their stories or to link with the subject of their non-fiction work. It also helped our younger years' classes, both with writing and speaking and listening because the children were able to record their sentences, using the microphone tool. Moreover, we have a significant number of children who speak English as an additional language, so Book Creator provides excellent support for them too because they are able to practice both their written and speaking skills simultaneously. Book Creator can really work in the science classroom, according to @MrW_BVPS CLICK TO TWEET The hypothesis Realising the potential of Book Creator, I wanted to see how effective it would be in other subject areas. In this instance, we used it in Science. The children were investigating the importance of surface area when thinking about floating and sinking. I felt this would be a good fit because it would help to immerse the children in the experiment."

NASA's 'All About That Bass' parody is all about that space [VIDEO] - 2 views

  •
"The space nerds at NASA have officially hopped on the Meghan Trainor parody train with their ode to the Orion spacecraft, "All About That Space." The Pathways Interns of NASA's Johnson Space Center recorded and filmed the parody song to encourage further public interest in Orion, which saw its first successful test flight on Dec. 5. The spacecraft orbited Earth twice during its flight and traveled 60,000 miles before splashing down into the Pacific Ocean as planned. NASA's parody isn't the first space-themed "All About That Bass" parody - a group of geeky ladies penned a similar, Star Wars-themed parody in November."

A Powerful Way To Use Music (And iPads) In The Classroom - Edudemic - 1 views

  •
"A few years back (Wow! We can't believe Edudemic has even been around that long!) we wrote about an awesome video that was recorded by a classroom of students and their iPads. The song was such a huge success that it went up for sale on iTunes! Considering that when I was a kid, music class included me banging randomly on a wooden block with a small mallet, I think it is fair to say that technology has brought music class a long, long way. Store Van Music embarked on a tour of schools in the UK and help the students create outstanding music using iPads and their minds."

How Technology Is Being Used In Music Classrooms - Edudemic - 1 views

  •
"Even though I'm not a music teacher (nor have I ever been, or will I be), I tend to find technology in music classrooms to be some of the most exciting ways that technology is being put to use in classrooms overall. While there's lots of time-saving-efficient-cool-useful stuff happening in all types of classrooms, there's something particularly awesome about making music and integrating some awesome digital technologies into the process. There are a million and one ways to use an iPad or other tablet in your music classroom, but it definitely doesn't stop there! The handy infographic below takes a look at how technology is revitalizing how musicians compose, record, perform, and distribute music - both in and out of the classroom."

Ramblings of a Modern Learner: Learning to Sketchnote - 0 views

  •
"This summer, I was introduced to sketchnoting and challenged to incorporate  the concept of sketchnoting as a means of note taking.  Sketchnoting is the process of creating a personal visual story while listening, reading, or recording an experience as it happens or on a later date. Sketchnoting brings in a variety of cognitive processes, increasing the connection between speaker and listener due to the engagement needed to listen intently while synthesizing the spoken word into drawings and short narratives.  I decided to to take the challenge seriously."
