Today is the video age, with many possibilities for integrating video in to language learning. Language learning is a multi-sensory process and video allows communicative learning skills, listening, speaking, reading and writing, with one resource. Video for ALL will be the European project that will bring together all current methodologies, ideas and innovative practices to teach and learn languages by integrating digital video. The project believes that video must be a basic tool for a more multidisciplinary approach to language teaching and learning in today's world.

The Research and Development Unit for English Studies (RDUES), based in the School of English at Birmingham City University, is a small team of corpus linguists, software engineers and statisticians. We carry out fundamental and applied research in corpus linguistics, developing new descriptions of the language in use and tools for the extraction and management of knowledge in databases. The Oxford Text Archive hosts the Arts and Humanities Data Service (AHDS) Centre for Literature, Languages and Linguistics, one of the five Subject Centres of the AHDS. The Archive holds several thousand digital resources of interest to researchers, teachers, and learners working across the range of literary and linguistic disciplines. Its holdings include electronic editions of works by individual authors, standard reference works, and a range of language corpora. Searches can be executed by author, title, or language, and other criteria will be added over time. Users can also use these criteria to browse the catalogue. The resource is freely available. The Archive also provides support for the creation and use of electronic texts, including guides to good practice, and advice and tools for using the Text Encoding Initiative's Guidelines for encoding texts in SGML and XML. The Corpus and LAnguage Variation In English Research Group (CLAVIER) is a Research Centre recently founded by the Universities of Bergamo, Firenze, Modena and Reggio Emilia, Roma La Sapienza and Siena, and currently based in Modena. The shared methodological framework combines two complementary strands of linguistic investigation - corpus analysis and discourse analysis - to research on language variation in English, both in quantitative and qualitative terms. Thus, one of the main aims of CLAVIER is to contribute to an integration of quantitative and qualitative methods in research on language variation in terms of diachronic, geographic and socio-cultural dimensions through the methodological tools offered by corpora. Particular attention is also given to the analysis of different genres and methodological registers.

Chinese Tools provides its users with a range of learning resources for Mandarin Chinese, from online simple language lessons, to news in Chinese and annotations of Chinese songs. From the main page, users will find links to: online Chinese dictionaries; a series of free Mandarin Chinese lessons; a Chinese phrasebook divided into everyday conversational topics; world news stories translated into Chinese; and tools converting traditional characters to simplified ones, and vice versa. The website also includes light-hearted textual information on the formation and origins of Chinese characters, and reproduces Chinese poetry and proverbs as learning tools.

In the eighteenth century, a linguistic big bang spun off a new etymological universe: the language of sensibility. "Sensibility" and its related terms either appeared for the first time, took on meanings unique to the period, or gained enriched connotations. The denotations of these new linguistic planets have proved as elusive as the rings of Saturn, however. This hypertext offers a new approach to understanding the language of sensibility, one that accounts for the multiple possibilities of meaning. Rather than attempting hard-line definitions, this project offers the tools for recognizing the multivalent connotations of such sensibilious words as "virtue," "sense," and "benevolence." Our hypertext groups excerpts from major words of sensibility according to 24 primary words; we imagine the sensibilious reader exploring these passages to glean a new understanding of the vocabulary and the literature of the period.

JRC-Acquis Multilingual Parallel Corpus is a collection of European Union legal texts, in 22 of the member state's languages, that has been aligned and coded in XML, providing an invaluable tool for linguistic research and a resource for computational linguistic applications. The corpus consists of a selection of texts from the Acquis Communautaire (AC), the total body of European Union (EU) law, applicable in the the EU member states and contains some 636 million word tokens. The languages included are, Bulgarian; Czech; Swedish; German; Greek; English; Spanish; Estonian; Finnish; French; Hungarian; Italian; Lithuanian; Latvian; Maltese; Dutch; Polish; Portuguese; Romanian; Slovak; Slovene; and Danish.

The Modern Hebrew project at the Linguistics Research Center began in 1998. With support from the University of Texas Vision Plan, a research team headed by Esther Raizen began creating and disseminating Hebrew tutorials, documents, and a number of Web-based tools intended for use by students and scholars of Hebrew language and linguistics and others interested in the revival of Hebrew and the development of national languages.

The Sheffield Corpus of Chinese (SCC) is a diachronic corpus consisting of a wide range of fully marked-up Chinese historical texts together with an integral search and analysis tool. The texts are organised in different types and genres and in different time periods. The long-term aim of SCC is to provide an extensive digital resource to facilitate study of the history and development of the Chinese language.
