  • What Google transcribedWhat I actually said now that grand central has become cool voice i thought i would be a good idea to review it and the best way to do that would be to test it out bye doing a little voicemail message and then leading school voice transcribe it for me so here's a chance to see how accurate it really is but they're a part of the site the really do about meNow that Grand Central has become Google Voice I thought it would be a good idea to review it and the best way to do that would be to test it out by doing a little voicemail message and then letting Google Voice transcribe it for me. So here's a chance to see how accurate it really is. But there are parts of the site that really do bug me. I tried to speak distinctly. I didn't want to make it harder for the system than it needed to be. Still, Google didn't recognize Google! The end of the message reads as if it was just made up! An earlier message from an auto body shop was even more garbled--though the all-important phone number made it through intact. Obviously, this is quite an achievement, but is it useful if it's only close? Advisedly--yes.

Staff Development via Distance Education - IAE-Pedia - 0 views

  • Not everybody thought that writing was a great advance. About 2,400 years ago Plato said: For this invention of yours [writing] will produce forgetfulness in the minds of those who learn it, by causing them to neglect their memory, inasmuch as, from their confidence in writing, they will recollect by the external aid of foreign symbols, and not by the internal use of their own faculties. Your discovery, therefore, is a medicine not for memory, but for recollection—for recalling to, not for keeping in mind. (Plato; 427BC–347BC.)

Experience: As a person matures he accumulates a growing reservoir of experience that becomes an increasing resource for learning.3. Readiness to learn. As a person matures his readiness to learn becomes oriented increasingly to the developmental tasks of his social roles.4. Orientation to learning. As a person matures his time perspective changes from one of postponed application of knowledge to immediacy of application, and accordingly his orientation toward learning shifts from one of subject-centeredness to one of problem centredness.5. Motivation to learn: As a person matures the motivation to learn is internal (Knowles 1984:12).

Asynchronous and Synchronous E-Learning (EDUCAUSE Quarterly) | EDUCAUSE - 0 views

  • In the [asynchronous discussions] it is easier to find some more facts, maybe have a look in a book and do more thorough postings. In fact, according to Kock’s estimate,18 an exchange of 600 words requires about 6 minutes for complex group tasks in face-to-face settings, while exchanging the same number of words over e-mail would take approximately one hour.
  • Almost every sentence in the asynchronous discussions of the smaller group, and a vast majority of sentences in the larger group, were classified as content-related. This is a remarkable result—imagine if learners on campus spent more than 90 percent of their time discussing issues related to course content. These results can also be interpreted as troublesome, however. If e-learners seldom meet face-to-face and teachers mainly rely on asynchronous e-learning, students might feel isolated and not part of learning communities, which is essential for collaboration and learning.15

Using collaborative course development to achieve online course quality standards | Cha... - 1 views

  • The common practice of systematic design, such as the ADDIE model, simply did not fit well with the academic culture (Moore & Kearsley, 2004; Magnussen, 2005). Over the past two decades, instructional designers in higher education have needed to redefine their role and practice. The role of a change agent emerged as instructional designers worked side by side with faculty to rethink their teaching in order to integrate technology into course design and delivery (Campbell, Schwier, & Kenny, 2007). Not only do instructional designers play the role of advisers to faculty and department on issues of curriculum and course quality, they also play a vital role in faculty development and institutional change when it comes to researching and implementing new learning technologies. Undoubtedly, instructional designers in higher education need to modify their approach and design models to fulfill their widening role and to make meaningful contributions. New design prototypes have evolved through field experience in higher education (Power, 2009), and role-based design has been proposed to transform the field of instructional design (Hokanson, Miller, & Hooper, 2008).
  • There was strong agreement among participants that the guidelines are more helpful for new and less-experienced faculty members.
