I have this exact same problem word for word. I have to keep hanging onto my Delicious account, because Diigo's html isn't working. As an example, this is what I put in:
I didn't enter any tags when I did it, because the preview showed bookmarks anyway. I tried with my tag 'wordpress' and I get the same problem. This is the code I am given by Diigo:
What you describe as an alternative is what I have been doing. I'm not sure why the method I write my posts is relevant, as I am adding these links as a widget and not part of any particular post.
Here I've specified the 'wordpress' tag, and trimmed the feed down to 5 links
Here I've copied and pasted the html into a text widget in my wordpress dashboard.
And here is what happens after I press the save button.
And if you go here you can see on the right hand side there's a link to my Delicious account, and underneath that are the links bookmarked on my Delicious, and underneath that is a link to my Diigo account with no links below it.
As an example, this is what I put in:
I paste that into a text widget in wordpress, and when I save the html becomes this:
And all I see on my blog is the title My Diigo.
