A kinder, gentler response to adolescent "sexting" - 0 views

  • My question is why we keep putting so much of this discussion in the context of crime and victimization?" asked Anne Collier of ConnectSafely.org. "The vast majority of the behavior we're talking about is adolescent behavior and risk taking. It's not criminal behavior."
  • For years we've been telling parents to put the computer in the living room, keep and eye on what your children are doing, go and hit the history button and review where they've been," Balkam explained. "Well all that advice holds true but it gets completely upended by mobile phones, PDAs, and anything that can walk around."
  • A recent survey indicates that as of last year, 71 percent of teens 12 to 17 own a mobile phone (that's up from 45% in 2004). Eighty-seven percent of 17-year-olds and over half of children 12-13 years of age have one.

Try this: Take a photo and upload it to Facebook, then after a day or so, note what the URL to the picture is (the actual photo, not the page on which the photo resides), and then delete it. Come back a month later and see if the link works. Chances are: It will.

Survey: Family time eroding as Internet use soars - 0 views

  •
The decline in family time coincides with a rise in Internet use and the popularity of social networks, though a new study stopped just short of assigning blame. The Annenberg Center for the Digital Future at the University of Southern California is reporting this week that 28 percent of Americans it interviewed last year said they have been spending less time with members of their households. That's nearly triple the 11 percent who said that in 2006.\n\nThese people did not report spending less time with their friends, however.

Kids cheating with tech but are schools cheating kids? - 0 views

  •
The results of a survey showing that 35 percent of middle school and high school students with cell phones have used them to cheat at school is indeed alarming. And perhaps more alarming is the finding that nearly a quarter of the students don't even think it's cheating. Cheating is cheating regardless of whether you use technology or old-fashioned paper notes. I'm appalled that kids may be using technology to cheat in school, but I'm just as appalled at how schools are cheating kids when it comes to technology.

  •
Buy discord account Discord is a voice and text chat app that lets you create private servers with friends. It's great for gaming, as well as many other things, but it can be difficult to set up if you're not tech-savvy. Thankfully, I've created this guide to help you get started with Discord. Here are some of the topics we'll cover:
  •
A Discord account is a username and password combination that you use to login to discord. It's important to note that there are two types of accounts: one-time use and recurring. The first type (one-time) is an account that can only be used once by one person, but it doesn't expire until you log out or close your browser window. The second type (recurring) allows users to create an unlimited number of characters on a single server; however, each character has its own separate set of messages and actions within the server's chat history log.
