Privacy Playground: The First Adventure of the Three Little CyberPigs was developed by the Media Awareness Network. In this game, designed for ages 8-10, the CyberPigs play on their favourite Web site and encounter marketing ploys, spam and a close encounter with a not-too-friendly wolf. The purpose of the game is to teach kids how to spot online marketing strategies, protect their personal information and avoid online predators. The accompanying Teacher's Guide explains how to play the game, gives background information on the issues of online marketing, spam and children's privacy and provides activities and handouts for classroom use.

The Entertainment Software Association has put together a comprehensive web site on intellectual property geared for K-5 and middle school students. Through hands-on learning activities, students explore the significance of intellectual property in their everyday lives. There are suggestions for integrating content with classroom curriculum, teacher's guides, reproducible worksheets and Powerpoint templates. All of the activities are designed to raise copyright awareness and build respect for intellectual property.

But very few teachers have the ability to either get this done promptly by the filter's administrators, or the authority to do it themselves.

A conversation on integrating cell phones into classroom learning.

Digizen.org's documentary film on Cyberbullying produced by Childnet International. Includes teacher's guide and lesson plan. The film is based on a composite of real events using professional actors. It depicts the story of a teenager who becomes the target of bullying via the Internet and by his mobile phone. The film shows a number of ways that cyberbullying can occur, who it involves, and how it can affect different people (including the teacher, who is in this film also subject to humiliation).The film and teacher's guide are designed for classroom or assembly use.

CyberSmart! provides five free videos, produced by high school students to stimulate discussion on topics relating to information literacy, cyber safety and ethics. Each of these 30 second engaging and humorous videos may be used both for professional development and in the classroom:

Instructional and classroom materials and videos in both English and Spanish, coded for grade-level appropriateness. Train-the-trainer materials are also available. A drop-down menu provides direct links to pages customized for each state, to make it easy to form educational partnerships.

The California K-12 High Speed Network (K12HSN) is offering a comprehensive set of tools to support teaching and learning in California classrooms. This free suite of tools, known as edZone, was developed by the California Dept of Education and currently includes blogging, videoconference scheduling and a file sharing system where educators can upload videos, podcasts, images and documents. EdZone is an excellent tool to share lesson ideas, upload student learning objects, disseminate best practices, and more! EdZone will soon be expanded to include Instant Messaging, Moodle, Wikis, Social Networking, Moodle-an online course management system and other Web 2.0 tools to enhance today's classroom environment. Watch for these new tools in Summer 2008!

Internet2 is a non-profit membership organization of 208 universities working in conjunction with government and industry to operate a private national Internet Protocol (IP) network reserved for the exclusive use of the US research and education (R&E) community.As the national R&E backbone, the Internet2 Network provides connectivity between institutions and connectivity to international research and education networks thereby providing access to the global research and education community. While there are many benefits of using Internet2 in the classroom here are the top three for K12:

In California, we have a localized statewide version of this effort called K12 High Speed Network/K12HSN

i-SAFE Inc. is the worldwide leader in Internet safety education. Founded in 1998 and endorsed by the U.S. Congress, i-SAFE is a non-profit foundation dedicated to protecting the online experiences of youth everywhere. i-SAFE incorporates classroom curriculum with dynamic community outreach to empower students, teachers, parents, law enforcement, and concerned adults to make the Internet a safer place.

Is the average high school student able to define social networking or give an example of it? I thought most would use Facebook as an example, but during a recent visit to a local high school, one freshman student used e-mailing his teacher in First Class as an example. Many of his classmates were of the same opinion as he, so it opened up a much-needed conversation during which this classroom full of 20 students spoke about where they preferred to network with each other.

After spending the day practicing cursive writing and discussing how money moves through a community, Mike Ice's second-graders at Dunn Elementary took out their notebooks and described what they'd learned - in 140 characters or fewer.

Part of a wider effort to use technology to extend learning beyond classroom walls and the six-hour school day. Internet buses may soon be hauling children to school in many other districts, particularly those with long bus routes. The company marketing the router, Autonet Mobile, says it has sold them to schools or districts in Florida, Missouri and Washington, D.C.

Award winning author, Don Tapscott, and award winning global collaborators Julie Lindsay and Vicki Davis are excited to announce the 2010 NetGenEd Project, a global collaboration to envision the future of education and social action by inspiring today's students to study leading technology trends and create their vision for the future. The project involves over 300 students from 6 countres and 15 classrooms.

These photos would be great exhibits for a classroom discussion on authenticating resources and not believing everything you see.
