This article reports on a five-year longitudinal study which investigated teachers' use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the classroom. The study, involving five teachers at primary and secondary schools in New South Wales, looked in particular at how ICT was incorporated into the participants' teaching practices over time, and why. The teachers clearly developed their use and understanding of ICT over the five years of the study; however, they did not adopt constructivist styles of practice in their use of ICT, as is often expected of teachers. The teachers largely held to teacher-centred practices, but had nevertheless incorporated ICT into their teaching in ways which reflected knowledge needed for today's society.

The game Chromaroma, developed by Mudlark Studios, answers these questions and more. It is basically foursquare for public transit-using London's Oyster Card system, users' trips are recorded and reported to Chromaroma. There is a lag time around 72 hours, after which a player's trips appear on their personal page and are displayed in a slick, 3d representation of the city. The recording aspect is only the beginning-players are assigned quests to go certain places or accomplish their commute in a different way, and can "capture" locations for one of four teams, which players join upon signing up.

Henrico County Schools System has adopted the TPACK as the Framework for professional development and 21st Century Learning in the Henrico County Schools System.  Henrico County is one of the largest and earliest districts to pioneer and implement a one-to-one initiative.  They have adopted this model as its conceptual framework to guide their progress towards the 21st Century Learning. The following video will set the stage to provide insight into how this school district uses technology for relevant and real-world learning.

Games based learning is supposed to be the next big thing. So when I revamped a unit of work for Year 10 based on designing scientific investigations, I decided to "gamify" the unit of work. I was inspired by a YouTube video by Seth Priebatsch on gamification, where elements of gaming can be added to education. After also seeing presentations by Dean Groom and Ben Jones I have  come up with my first "gamified" set of learning experiences.

I don't like lugging stacks of cardboard and paper for recycling, but it has to be done. While I know it's good to recycle, it still feels like a chore to do it. Similarly many of my students don't like completing and submitting their work, even though they know it's good for them. Doing work and handing it in can often feel like a chore and many students do it to avoid punishment. So how can I make my students want to hand in work? Perhaps by making it fun?

Classrooms have come a long way. There's been an exponential growth in educational technology advancement over the past few years. From overhead projectors to iPads, it's important to understand not only what's coming next but also where it all started. We've certainly come a long way but some things seem hauntingly similar to many years ago. For example, Thomas Edison said in 1925 that "books will soon be obsolete in schools. Scholars will soon be instructed through the eye." I'm pretty sure this is exactly what people are saying these days about the iPad.

Google's engineers are brewing in their cauldron of awesomeness applications that can make user experience better. Over the years they have come up with several useful applications like Google Reader, Google Maps, and Google Trends to name a few. Although most of the applications are still experimental and are still faulty, major features are truly groundbreaking.
