Archer Audio Archives: Voices Of The Presidents - 1 views

  •
On this site you can listen to a variety of audio clips.  I enjoyed the section on voices of presidents.  It would be fun for students to hear their voices instead of always reading a transcript of it.

You can also access their web guide which contains extensive online resources for teachers and students of individuals, events, eras, and historical documents. This site is also a portal to using, citing, teaching, and analyzing primary sources, finding classroom materials to match state standards, lesson plans, activities, news & events, professional development, FAQs, and additional resources, like slide shows and handouts from past Library of Congress events.

Children and Youth in History | Primary Sources - 3 views

  •
I thought this site was unique because the documents focused on children throughout the world. You can browse by region or do a specific search. I think children would really like this site because it would be interesting to learn about children in history and see how they could relate it to their life.
  •
Grouped by region, this website provides a variety of topics.  Although it looks like the website was last updated in 2008, I thought it would be another resource to use with children.  Many of the topics I looked at were not typical documents you would find on most websites.

This site was created by the National Oceanic and Atmopshperic Association in an effort to share photographs collected by the personnel who work for the agency. This would be a great site for students to collect visual artifacts (past and present) for assignments dealing with weather events and ocean life.

Good connection to writing here; even the founding fathers needed to go through the writing process before they were ready to "turn in" (submit) their "final draft" of the Declaration of Independence.

These primary documents are listed by date, which would make it a handy reference for teachers and students, especially in social studies classrooms. Prints & Photographs Online Catalog - 1 views

  •
This site would be of interest to more visual learners, as well as anyone trying to get an image of a historical event. While most of these are digitized images, you can also see whether or not the original is in the Library of Congress archives. In my opinion this gives more credibility to the digitized item. Everyone can get some use from a picture - P-12.

I love these links and activities. I initially went to this site because it seemed promising for science and math activities. There are a variety of subjects covered here to include the initial two mentioned and foreign languages. There are also primary source activites here, a real tresure chest. Not only can I use some of these with my high school foreign language students, but also find things to keep my grandkids entertained when babysitting.

Occupational Outlook Quarterly - 0 views

  •
"OOQ provides practical information on jobs and careers. Articles are written in straightforward, non-technical language and cover a wide variety of career and work-related topics such as unusual occupations, tips for jobseekers, salary trends, and results of new studies from the Bureau of Labor Statistics." Articles as far back as 1999 are available online for students and school counselors to access and assist students in career planning
  •
I was specifically interested in the timely articles on things like finding careers in the gaming industry. Many students think that there are unending careers in the field of video game development and in fact there are some excellent careers in the field, but often students have unrealistic ideas of the prospects. This site allows them to search back as early as 1999 articles so they can get an idea of what trends may associated with these careers.

This is an interesting site that tries to present both sides of controversial issues. It uses journals, government documents, reports and other primary sources to present each side of the issue. Topics include education, health and medicine, politics, religion, sports, media and entertainment, money and business to name a few. This would be a great site for debate class, writing a persuasive speech, and use with current events.

Popular Songs in American History - 1 views

  •
This site is a collection of songs from early American History, including the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and westward expansion after the war. This would be useful for a unit on any of those eras, especially for a music teacher, however it could be used by a classroom teacher or school librarian as well. I think listening to music from the past really helps students get a better feel for what it was like then. They may be able to picture that time and place in their mind a little clearer while listening to music they would have heard then.
