Scholastic.com is a gateway with an overabundance of activities for both teacher and student. Scholastic provides easy to navigate tabs for locating resources and tools, strategies and ideas, student activities, and books and authors by grade levels (Pre-K-12). The choices are filtered by grade, subject, and activities to effectively narrow down the user's search (i.e.), math, social studies, reading, sports, special education, language arts and animals. Once the user has selected the necessary discipline, they are able to use interactive and engaging web and whiteboard activities as well as a variety of lesson plans that are geared toward the 21st Century learner.

This is the teacher site of the Library of Congress. Here you can locate primary sources by topic sets, topic, state, and theme. You can also access their web guide which contains extensive online resources for teachers and students of individuals, events, eras, and historical documents. This site is also a portal to using, citing, teaching, and analyzing primary sources, finding classroom materials to match state standards, lesson plans, activities, news & events, professional development, FAQs, and additional resources, like slide shows and handouts from past Library of Congress events.

National Archives website with a lot of great resources.  Lesson plans & activities to help planning lessons around primary sources, school tours and activities, links with help to use primary sources.  There are also featured activities and resources.  Not to mention professional development opportunities!

Archives.gov offers a section designed just for educators. There are lesson plans and reproducible sources that can be used to teach American History. Teachers can find lessons based on specific historical time periods. Educators can also find professional development opportunities. There is a section for state and regional primary resources, but I noticed that Nebraska is not on the list.

The National Archives provides many primary documents.  Looking at the site, I also found the teacher resource section really helpful.  Some of the things that can be found there are how to find primary resources and how to use them. For teachers and librarian that are new to using this resource, or new a refresher, I think it will really benefit them.

This is a 2 page document which offers suggestions for teachers about using the online resources from the National Archives. It is a quick read with the web links right in the text for ease of use. The suggestions go beyond the obvious use for research to include links to lesson plans and resources to teach document analysis. This could be a very useful tool for teachers in all subjects.

This is a tool provided by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum to help teachers organize their instruction of the Holocaust. It speaks to the rationale for the teaching and provides guidelines for teaching about genocide, a very sensitive topic. There are also links for both teachers and students which give a comprehensive understanding of the Holocaust. The images and first person accounts are riveting.  

This site has great resources for teaching history, civics, or government. There are many primary documents for students to see and lots of ideas for teachers. There are state standards and lesson ideas. Lessons are provided for different eras and there is a link to DocsTeach where teachers can create their own documents or search for something they can use. I think this site would be very helpful.

The Library of Congress website offers modules for teachers that can be used to gain information on how to use primary source documents with their students. Parts of these modules especially "Analyzing Primary Sources: Photographs and Prints" and "Analyzing Primary Sources: Maps" can be used for instruction with students. There is an interactive slideshow that shows students how to go through the process of analyzing primary sources such as prints, maps, and photos. This could be used by a teacher librarian or any teacher who is asking students to use primary sources in the form of prints, photos, and maps in class.

PBS Teachers is a portal that provides preK-12 educational resources that include thousands of lesson plans, teaching activities, on-demand video assets, and interactive games and simulations that correlate to state and national educational. The site allows its user an advanced search option to fine tune their search for specific lessons by grade level, subject, and resource request (i.e.) lesson plans, video, interactive, slideshow. For educators, the site also provides a unique opportunity to subscribe and join different educator discussion forums as well as theme based theme-based widgets containing links to high-quality activity packs, resources, and activities for multiple grade levels.

Primary Resources - free worksheets, lesson plans and teaching ideas for primary and elementary teachers. This primary website allows easy access to K-6 teachers and students. A great way to practice and master skills. Primary Resources covers all curriculum areas.

A great resource on Nebraska history from pre-1500 to present day for teachers and students. Lesson plans are geared toward 4th grade. Site includes archival photos, letters, video segments and maps.

Teachers and students are able to find and learn about Nebraska from this website. The time line makes it easy to find information in a chronological order. Photos, letters, video, maps and other formats of information is available. Fourth graders focus on Nebraska History in Social Studies, and this website offers relevant information that they can use outside of their textbooks.

Digital History has documents and photos that cover most of the topics taught in American History. Students can search by category or use the online modules that are arranged by topic. The modules include primary sources such as photos and documents. Also included in the modules are a fact sheet, website recommendations, and other books and films that have to do with the topic. An especially fun part of the site is the "You Choose the Headline" feature, which allows students to choose an event from a list and see the actual newspaper headline from that day.

This site is one of my favorites.  It is one of those sites that is packed with so much interest that you don't want to stop exploring.  The set up is very appealing and the appearance of the site is beautiful.  The images, accounts, exibitions and multimedia are so rich and authentic.  There is so much here: guides for teachers, interactive timeline, historical music and more.  This is a must see if you teach social studies.

Digital History offers many sources for teachers and high school students. A section of primary sources that include historic newspapers, documents, court cases, and other sources are available. Visual, multimedia, and interactives are available to enrich student's learning and research process.

This website has many lesson plans and units prepared for teachers using primary sources documents that were found at the National Archives. Covering the American Revolution to the present, the lessons focus on sequencing, details, interpretation, and connections of events. Great for Middle School through high school.

Students use primary sources to learn about historical events. There are activities ready to use in the classroom or modify existing activies to meet your classroom needs.

The National Archives Experience Docs Teach site allows its users to register and bookmark activities while allowing them to create their own interactive activities for the classroom. The site is designed to motivate students to take an interest in what they are learning by providing materials that sparks interest, provides multiple perspectives, and helps teach students how to recognize bias and question where the information they are reading is coming from. The site provides ready-to-use classroom materials as well as access to thousands of primary sources from the National Archives that allow the teacher to promote further investigation while making connections between the past and present.

Digital History:Explorations is a resource with time period/theme specific "webquests" for both students and teachers. Primary source documents (photos, documents, letters, etc.) along with teacher resources and lesson plans make this an excellent multiple literacies must for teachers and school librarians.

Federal Resources for Educational Excellence or FREE, is a U.S. Department of Education website that complies free teacher resources from dozens of federal agencies.  Subjects range from: arts and music, history and social studies, health, language arts, math, and science. 

Find links to Amazing Space's latest features, the most recent Hubble pictures, and news for educators. It has a monthly star gazing guide and homework help. It is a great site for both teachers and students.

This site provides current news related to the Earth and is processes. Of particular interest to science and social science teachers are the articles on climate change , nature and wildlife, emerging diseases, and the tracking of earthquakes, volcanoes and hurricanes. 

These primary documents are listed by date, which would make it a handy reference for teachers and students, especially in social studies classrooms. The documents can be downloaded in a printer friendly view with the citation on the bottom. There is a wide variety of topics of interest to students.

There are numerous websites that offer various lessons plans and information for teachers about teaching about energy in the classroom.

This is Intended for elementary and secondary school students and teachers who are interested in learning about the nervous system and brain with hands on activities, experiments and information.

This site provides primary sources with lots of topics for research. Students can browse through historic newspapers, old photographs, film, sound recordings, and more. Some of the topics include American history, maps and geography, religion and philosophy, and sports and leisure. There are even short webcasts that are very informative.
