AppleInsider | iPad now 97% of tablet traffic, eclipses iPhone, iOS remains mobile leader - 0 views

" iPad now 97% of tablet traffic, eclipses iPhone, iOS remains mobile leader By Daniel Eran Dilger Published: 04:27 PM EST (01:27 PM PST) A new market research report notes that mobile devices now amount to almost 7 percent of all US web traffic, with Apple's iOS representing a 58.5 percent slice of all mobile traffic and the iPad now accounting for more traffic than iPhones. The growth of mobile devices has claimed a 6.8 percent chunk of US web traffic from conventional PCs, according to a new report by comScore. Of that segment, about two thirds of the traffic is from mobile phones and a remaining third is being generated by tablet users. The group notes that Apple's iPad now accounts for 97.2 percent of all tablet-originating web traffic, driving home the reality that competitors have not yet released a significant tablet competitor. Among iOS users, iPad now accounts for 46.8 percent of all traffic generated, making it now a more prolific tool than the iPhone for mobile web use, which represents 42.6 percent of iOS traffic. An increasingly important market segment The firm also outlined why the growth of tablet traffic is significant, noting that almost half of tablet owners have completed purchases using their tablet. "Tablet owners exhibited significant use of their devices throughout the entire online shopping process," comScore reported, "from doing the initial planning, conducting product and store research, making price comparisons, to finally transacting. In the past month, more than half of tablet owners looked up product or price information for a specific store (56 percent) and read customer ratings and reviews while on a tablet (54 percent)." The group added, "the incremental reach through mobile and connected devices should not be underestimated," pointing out that, "in August 2011, the additional mobile and connected device audience for Pandora accounted for more than half of their total cross-platform audience." Delete iPhone & iPad Backups Easily Within iTunes - 1 views

  •
"Without using iCloud, the iPhone, iPad, and iPod backups can take up a lot of local disk space on a computer. If you've moved the iPhone/iPad to sync with a new computer, sold an iOS device, or just want to potentially free up some disk space, you can easily delete these backups directly from iTunes."

"This is, as I am sure you are aware, a debate as old as the iPad itself. "A computer without a mouse or keyboard," went the argument when the iPad was announced, "is no kind of computer at all." Then people started using iPads to write books, paint pictures, make music, and much, much more. Harry Marks recently summarised the position of most of the Apple blogosphere when he dismissed the "iPad is made for consumption" idea as "thoroughly-debunked"."

Mirror an iPad2 on your Mac Laptop | iPad with Wes - 7 views

"Dreams come true, and I'm thrilled to share this one with you. Using the $15 Reflection App on an Apple computer, it's now possible to MIRROR the screen of an iPad2 or iPhone4S right on your screen. This essentially makes your Apple computer function like an AppleTV for iOS mirroring, except you don't need to purchase and install a $99 AppleTV with a HDMI cable. This is HUGE for teachers and anyone else needing to share an iPad screen with students over a projector. "

Power to Learn - A Day on the iPad - 4 views

  •
Apple's new iPad is out, and the big question for us is how it might help teaching and learning in school. So to test it's metal, I'm writing this article on an iPad. Writing is first in line of the things students do most with their computers in school, so this should be a good test. But how about the other things at students need to do in a typical day? That's the real test. So we'll go back a few weeks to an article called A Day in the Life, and see how many of the things that Sally needed her computer for could be done with the iPad.

Siri Acquisition Brings Apple Much Closer to the 'Knowledge Navigator' Concept - Mac Ru... - 4 views

  •
"In 1987, Apple produced a concept video demonstrating a future computer called the Knowledge Navigator. The tablet-like device offered the user a natural language interface, video conferencing, multi-touch display and access to a global network of information. Siri understands what you say, accomplishes tasks for you and adapts to your preferences over time.mSiri can help you find and plan things to do. While seemingly the product of an overactive imagination, Apple's recent acquisition of Siri brings Apple a lot closer to that vision than ever before. Siri reportedly was born from the CALO artificial intelligence project which sought to fulfill a call for a "a cognitive computer system should be able to learn from its experience, as well as by being advised." Apple's value in acquiring Siri appears to be focused on this personal assistance technology. "

How To Sync Apps From Multiple Macs | Mac|Life - 20 views

  • Any content that your husband purchased through the iTunes Store on his Mac or through the App Store on the iPad—apps, music, TV shows, and movies--can be stored on up to five authorized computers. Those five computers can then sync to any number of iPads or iPhones.
  • Ideally, I would like to merge his apps with my apps. Is there any way?
  • First, authorize your Mac with your husband’s iTunes account name and password.
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • Then you’ll need to copy his iPad apps onto your computer
  • Next, iTunes will ask you if you want to transfer your husband’s apps into your own iTunes library.
  • You can then sync your iPad once again, and iTunes will ask you if you want to overwrite your iPad with your apps. This time, you can allow that to happen

- Top 10 Sites for Educational Apps - 10 views

The wave of the future is here, especially for education.  Terms like 21st Century Computing, BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), and Cloud Computing are mainstream.  The introduction of mobile devices, iPods, netbooks, and more specifically, the iPad, has brought technology to more students than ever before.  A one-to-one computing environment is not only a possibility, but also a reality in more school districts than people realize.  With all that being said, below are my 10 favorite sites for finding educational apps.
