  • Under French rule, Haiti's abundant sugar plantations made it perhaps the richest colony of the Caribbean. The slave rebellion began about 1790 and a leader soon emerged: Toussaint L'Overture. After years of fierce fighting, L'Overture was captured by Napoleon's forces and died in France.The rebellion lived on, and Napoleon's mighty forces were defeated. Haiti declared itself a nation on Jan. 1, 1804. For years to come, however, Haiti would pay reparations to France.The loss of Haiti's riches and strategic location was part of Napoleon's decision to sell the Louisiana Purchase, which doubled the size of the United States.In America, where blacks were still seeking freedom, there was pride and wonder that Haitians had seized their destiny. This left an indelible imprint on African-American culture.

      The history that is suggested here is very important. There's a lot of "looking the other way" racism in the U.S. response to the revolution that isn't mentioned here, too.

    This is surprising to me because in the city, we don't usually experience droughts or wildfire, hardly. A heatwave, maybe occasionally in the summer but the other two, hardly. And here we have breaking news about Australia suffering from heatwaves, droughts and wildfire. It must really be like hell where they live right now.

    I'm learning more about racism right now, and in particular what I'm wondering about is how the people treat each other. I was researching this question online, and this poem caught my attention because It tells how people treat African Americans. The title of the poem is called "Racism and Capitalism." Here is the quote I chose "We are the people And you cannot lift a finger for the immigrants Without the courage to raise your fist In defense of all of us And you cannot solve black poverty Without solving all poverty." The quote I chose here is basically saying African Americans are not going to be equal like normal human unless they fight with their individual rights. I think this is not right because people used to treat African American like slaves. African American don't have rights in everywhere. When the rich kids passed by the cities, they were told to be careful with their wallet. It makes me wonder that we, as human being, why there are difference between people? Are we equal to each other?

  • A number of different hoax claims have been advanced that involve conspiracy theories outlining concerted action by NASA employees, and sometimes others, to perpetuate false information about landings that never occurred, or to cover up accurate information about the landings that occurred in a different manner than have been publicized. Believers have focused on perceived gaps or inconsistencies in the historical record of the missions. The Flat Earth Society was one of the first organizations to accuse NASA of faking the landings, arguing that they were staged by Hollywood and based on a script by Arthur C. Clarke.[13]

One of the old tapes has been sent to NASA for analysis. The slow-scan television images were not on the tape.[67] Britain's Sunday Express reported in late June 2009 that the missing tapes were found in storage facility in the basement of a building on a university campus in Perth, Australia.

      Let me explain this. First because of the daytime at the moon, stars were not visible. Second, the camera may have just concentrated on the bigger blackness rather then the light. Third, human eyes werent used to the light in the moon.

      Let me explain this. First the angle of the Sun's light affects the angle of the shadows. Second, the distance between objects affect the angle. Third light reflects off the moon resulting in some objects appearing to be different angles.

      It'a quite surprising that we have done such things to Haiti over 200 years. Now I learned what it means by owing Haiti billions. It's true that "justice" is worth billions. Unfortunately, it seems that the US didn't retain the justice that it should have.

    I'm not sure that obesity fits the issue of "food security," but obesity causes diabetes, which means that this disease is directly related to how people are getting and eating their food, and it is a special problem in New York City as this article makes clear. And diabetes is no minor disease. It is causing a health crisis in our city: "The somatic consequences of diabetes - including a greatly increased risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, blindness, renal failure, and amputations - are well-known and documented. Researchers are now also focusing on its devastating effects on mental health, as diabetic New Yorkers are 1.9 times more likely than nondiabetic residents to suffer from depression, anxiety, and other psychological disorders (6)."
